VCDS error help needed after installing RNS-E MK2

Post by CaptainLeadFoot » Sun Apr 12, 2015 1:46 pm

Hi,

Also ordered the glossy RNS-E from fleabay, except the re-wiring took a bit of time (the connectors are a bit jammed after pushing them out from the socket...), the installation was a bliss and simple.

Up and running !
I have re-coded from Symphony II+ so the previous code was 0030101, the unit came pre-coded with 0309758.

But since I have no additional accessories fitted other than the 6 stack CD in the glove box, I have modified it to 0339153.

I have noticed the park asisst is actually set to 0000114, should it be changed to 0000414 for the Euro RS model ??

After scanning from VCDS and clearing some code, these still remain. I haven't installed the GPS antenna yet so the first fault is known. Could someone assist with the other 2 faults ?

They're all "Fault Frequency :1" so clear them and see if they come back as they might have been set during the install.

Thanks for the tips PetrolDave. I think I might need to change the code to 0309153.

Below is the first set of errors that I have after install when the unit was first in. I have cleared them and put in 0339153.

So the final one "03157 - Functionality limited due to Communications Disruption" hopefully should disappear.

The error "00858 - Connection; Radio Intermediate Frequency (IF) Output to Antenna Amplifier, 007 - Short to Ground", will this be linked the the GPS antenna ??

655350km in the last post.
No idea why that would be different from dash mileage though.

If you don't get any answer in this thread maybe start a new one for the mileage issue.

No it's not related to the GPS antenna at all.

That's normally caused by either a bad connection to one of the diversity antenna inputs at the rear of the RNS-E or by upgrading from a Symphony II+ to an RNS-E (the Symphony II+ uses a different diversity system to the Symphony II and RNS-E)..

Oh...does that mean I need another antenna ? the connector is the same as the RNS-E though...I'm upgrading from Symphony II+, is it safe to ignore ? Will there be any damage to the RNS-E in the long run ??

I've tried the re-coding, then reset the RNS-E, I noticed they all come out only after the reset and subsequent start/stop engine won't trigger the fault code.

So I guess it's ok for now, but will the battery be drained or leak out to the chasis with the Antenna throwing a short to ground code ?

You have two choices:
- live with it, which is what the vast majority of people who do the II+ to RNS-E upgrade do;
- completely refit the antenna diversity system, which is a real PITA.

It's only a problem if you live in an area with really poor FM reception as you won't have an antenna diversity system any more - but most cars don't have one anyway!

It won't cause any problems with extra power drain or the RNS-E staying on.

Yeah totoally agree with you PetrolDave, as long as there's no safety or equipment concerns I'll leave it. The radio frequencies in Hong Kong here are pretty strong so it's not going to be too painful for me.

I read the posts on other forums, does it really need to change the glass on the rear hatch to have the correct antenna fitted ?

No, one guy (a few years ago) did it just by changing the two antenna amplifiers to convert them back to the old diversity system.
