Re-spray options

Post by NJMAudiRS4 » Sat Apr 11, 2015 12:19 am

The front bumper and bonnet have been peppered with stone chips and also I have lacquer peeling around the door shuts and handles, I've been quoted £1700 to do the Bumper, bonnet, both sides including all door sills and surrounds, all trims and rear bumper (not including rear tailgate and roof) Good price ?

I'm contemplating having the front grill surround in Carbon Fibre along with the number plate surround and the grills in Gloss black (including fog lamp grills) Comments welcome !!!

The car is Pearlescent Daytona Grey with black optics pack, has anyone had Carbon fibre wing mirrors done ? With this colour scheme, would it look good or bad ???

The collective opinions are required. :beerchug:

I also have a Daytona grey with black optics pack.

My front bumper is splatted with stone chips, rear bumper has a crack in the paint, tailgate rust bubble appearing, and Laquer peeling slightly on A pillars

I had Glasgow Audi paint inspector have a look at the tailgate rust and Laquer peel, I was told me its common for laquer peel on these cars but only 3 years warranty so not covered, the tailgate rust would be covered but as they were so expensive to do the rest of the bits i decided to go with a friend of a friend in Glasgow.

He is a subcontractor for Glasgow audi and quoted me £800 all in to do both bumpers, tailgate, both A pillars and blended into rear quarters.

his work looks second to none, there was a 2012 A6 in daytona grey just out the booth and looked amazing after having full front end painted..

Booked in for next week, really looking forward to getting the paintwork up to scratch the get the interior perfect next,

might even fall in love with it again and save for supercharger............. :rocker:

Gloss black does look very nice, do you think the surrounding edge of the main grill would suit the gloss black if it was done in carbon fibre ?

I was tempted to wrap the fog light grills in carbon fibre, but now I've seen the gloss black, Mmmmm!!!

I personally don't like the carbon grill. Gloss black looks nice though.

Bear in mind as well with carbon fibre that if a stone chips the lacquer and its not resealed it can craze, crack and delaminate. Your better off hydro dipping it a carbon effect.

And I like the idea of the carbon mirros. I looked into doing this previously but they were about £700 which I thought was too much.

That's very bad logic. Hydro dipping =/= carbon fibre. Ever.

Nick, do you know which body Shop you will be using? I'm looking to have similar work done to mine but don't know any local decent bodyshops.

Hi Mike, the place I'm thinking of using is called Strada on Stanmore industrial estate Bridgnorth. The chaps name is James, he's a bit of a VW nut. He explained that he would strip off bumpers, mirrors & housings, door handles and all trims so that all the paint would cover all the required areas including the petrol filler housing.
I've seen a couple of his jobs and can't fault them.

There is another company on the same estate called Body Beautiful run by a chap called Alex, his work is outstanding but expensive, I will try and get a quote of him but i suspect it will be astronomical, he does work for
Classic Motor Cars Ltd, also on the same estate, they restored Ian Callum's MK 11 Jag.

I have used in the past a bloke closer to your neck of the woods, he used to work for Audi in Coventry, he did my wife's EOS after some numpty ran into the back of her car, he did it as a favour so it was quite cheap yet still a good job, I will try and find out his name and number and get it to you.

If you want the phone numbers of the 2 companies in Bridgnorth let me know, not sure if it's a little out of your way Geographicaly

Thanks Nick, yeah Bridgnorth is a fair distance from me.
