Clunky 2nd gear

I have a clunky 2 gear mainly changing down gear from 3-2 it does not happen if the gear change is below 20mph and change up through the gears is fine all the other gears are fine. Been looking through other forums and this seem to be the norm with 2nd gear. Is anyone else having this issue and how have you got round it

Yep 2nd gear is weak in these boxes and 4th too , no way to get round it , simply the synchro is dying and will get worse , the longer you leave it the more damage it will cause to the 2nd gear and synchro hub , so the minimum you will need is a synchro ring set for 1/2nd hub a new 1st/2nd hub and 2nd gear for peace of mind JHM do an upgrade kit for them , various combinations from new snychros right up to modified gear set and high 6th gear for motorway cruising

Thanks so a recon box is not worth the wank as it could/will happen again later but the kit JHM will stop it in the future has anyone I the UK you know have the JHM kit fitted and who did they use.
Is this the JHM kit

The JHM kit uses OEM parts not strengthened ones. Not really worth shipping this stuff across the Atlantic plus import fees. You can get it way cheaper in Germany with the weak EUR at the moment.
I made a list of all the parts I need for my box rebuild and it came to around 1100 EUR with all synchros, a new 2nd and 3rd gear plus the 2 shift collars for those gears. And some seals.

So the parts are uprated? where did you get the parts from any links and who will be doing the rebuild

Nothing is really uprated, but 2nd gear is a later design. The JHM kit is useful for folks in the US who have higher dealer prices for this kind of stuff, and it's a convenient one click order kind of thing.
I checked pricing over at Kufatec.de. Will see if I can make a list of parts later. I remember missing one or two part numbers for a rubber seal here and there but nothing major.
Not decided where to do the rebuild yet.

Synchro rings for first and second gear are p/n 0A2311283. You need two of those.
For all other gears 0A2311283A. So 4 pieces.
New second gear 0A2311261C.
Second gear shift collar 0A2311243B
Selector Shaft Detents 0A2301242 x2
Various seals and things 0A2311091A, 012311113B, 0A3301323, 010409580, 0A2311152.
You can buy them here
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/de/index.php?page=vag_parts
But be warned that the first p/n for synchros has a bit of a bug on the site, it changes it to 0A2311283B which is wrong. Workaround is adding this part by first clicking on the description of the correct part after the initial search and add it to the cart from there.

Had a look at he site they wont deal with private individuals and there are quite a few parts that are not available or the part numbers have changed
Secondly I called a gear box company that have rebuilt theses and he said he would use genuine parts that where updated by Audi as a uprated part because they where having the boxes in on warranty does anyone know the part numbers

Those are the latest numbers per ETKA. When Audi updates parts the old ones are obsolete and no longer sold.
You can buy all of it on Kufatec, I did all the p/n last week and they are all valid. Their search just sucks and you have to go all the way back to the first search page as their main search function doesn't search the separate parts database. You can buy there as an individual, they just want you to waive the right to return the goods and so on and so forth. They're so much cheaper than your local Audi dealer it's well worth it.
But ask whoever rebuilds the box for a total quote, and possibly one where you supply the parts yourself.

I have also noticed a stiff change from 1st to 2nd and it sometimes take 2 trys to go in to 1st when stationary.
Can anyone recommend a good company in the south for the box rebuild?
I am contemplating removing the box myself to try and keep cost down a little.
