power steering flush

Flushed the power steering today and filled with new oil what a differnce the steering feels like new it was good before but even better feel now total price £9.56 and half hour to complete

Keep meaning to do this.. Any tips as you did it or super straight forward..

I got away with 1ltr but you may need more buy more than you need very easy to do

Ok this is what i did tools 1or2 ltrs of vw G004 OOO M2 PS FLUID. clear plastic syringe with about a 60cm of clear soft plastic tube to fit the end of the syringe and a clean 2ltr milk carton or similar cut to suit for the spent oil. and rags .make sure wheels in straight ahead posistion and engine off DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE WITHOUT PS FLUID IN remove ps resovoir cap and inert plastic tube make sure it goes to the bottom of the res and not just on to the top of the filter attach syringe and suck all the fluid out taking note of the colour then dispose into the milk carton. refill with new oil to the bottom of the neck of the res run engine for a minute or so turning the steering wheel from lock to lock put wheels in strait ahead position and switch off engine repeat the process untill the dirty black oil has come out you will see the new clear green fluid in the syringe and pipe depending on mileage you may need more or less new fluid good luck just to add i purchased my fluid from my local skoda dealer with your last fill only fill to max level on dip stick and re check when cold if you did the work hot

I agree, it made a nice subtle difference but it wasn't night and day.. How did you find it?

Bit of a pain as well, took about 6 cycles and 1 litre and a half of fluid doing this before i got anything resembling green fluid returning into the reservoir..

Always pays to have the right tools too.. Making do with a turkey baster and random length of hose wasn't ideal! Hah

It wasn't night and day, but it had a different feel - hard to put my finger on it, but smoother I guess. It was worth it to flush out the old fluid and have some fresh for £20...

Evening all. Just did this myself tonight and whilst one man's 'night and day' is another's 'subtle' I have definitely noticed a difference and the steering does feel smoother and a little tighter. Placebo or not, it is worth £20 just for that and a small gift to my 88k mile breadvan.

I went out for a bit of a hoon first, so the PS fluid was nice and warm, did the swap over (I used up pretty much a whole 2 litres before colour change) and then went out for the same drive. Thanks for write up skywriter

Yeah, I did exactly this. Lock to lock should get it going, but I have about 200ml left from 2ltr.

It's smoother for sure. The fluid that came out was a dense brown. It was worth £20 to know it has fresh fluid sploshing around the seals...

I did this last night. the old fluid was brown and horrid smelling - what a foul smelling liquid. Stunk up the whole garage. Went through 1 ltr getting it to resemble the green fluid. Steering feels better. not a night-and-day difference, but better.
