Brake disc question
Brake disc question
We all love a brake question don't we?
I have just bought some front rotors off ebay, they are OEM but they both have the same part number... Is there any difference in the two or is it just a part number thing but both sides are actually the same? There are no marks on the actual discs that really tell you what they are...
Anyone?

Re: Brake disc question
The front discs are not handed like the rears. No idea why. But for whatever reason they are the same so have the same part number. This means they look odd as on one side the drilled holes go the wrong way.
The rears are handed though so have 2 part numbers.

Re: Brake disc question
I just turned to my misses and said, I bloody love this forum, you watch someone will reply in the next 10 mins with the answer!
So thanks Mike!
Stoke Audi says there are two part nos for the front, but if it actually makes no difference then I'm fine with that, what does handled mean for the rears though?

Re: Brake disc question
Stairs, for some reason Audi have a specific disc for left and for right on the rear. I dunno why this is, maybe someone more
technical might be able to shed some light on it.

Re: Brake disc question
If you go and take a look at the rears on your car you'll notice that the holes are sloped in the same directify as you look at them. If you look at the fronts you'll see that the slope in opposite directions as you look at them. This is because the rears are actually made individually for each side (handed) where as the fronts are the same disc just spun round(not handed) if that makes any sense
Re: Brake disc question
It makes sense.... Just odd that they didn't do the same with the fronts.
Thank you everyone for the advice.... As always!

Re: Brake disc question
It amazes me that Audi went to all the trouble to have fully floating front discs with nice bells and bobbins, and then bolt blooming great chunks of cast iron to them that are no good to man nor beast. At least there's plenty of meat to them for skimming.
Re: Brake disc question
Buy AP racing disks. You keep the bobins and replace the discs only when they are worn. So they work out the same as OEM but are much better quality and engineered to a much higher standard.
