B8 RS4 sport seats in B7 RS4?

Post by madgreek » Fri Feb 27, 2015 9:04 pm

Question for you owners across the pond.

Been looking for a set of what I believe you call the over there Recaro Sport seats or "buckets". We in the US only where given the Recaro Comforts.

I found a few sets from the B8. Do you know if these will fit the B7??The seats looks almost identical , but I assume the rails, brackets and possibly the wiring harness connectors are different?

Picture of set in question enclosed.

why , we have cross plane V8 motors like the Muricans :=) is that not compatible ?, ok they rev a lot higher by 3000 rpm

i don't know if B8 seats will fit , i,m thinking they will with some slight mods if needed ,maybe the bolt positions will be different but then maybe the seats will bolt onto the runners you have , i know the B7 bucket seats fit right in to US spec cars and its a mod often done over here too, for cars that have comfort seats from the factory , bigger issue may be the wiring for airbags etc you have , which these seats do not iirc , the module will require some deactivation or correct resistors fitted to your existing wiring to simulate the airbags in your comforts

Thanks guys. Yeah I figured it was a long shot. The B7 specific sport seats are plug and play in the North American RS, all is needed is a some coding to disable the airbag light triggered by the lack of them in these seats.

Nice replacement for the usually worn drivers seat if they do fit. I may look into this myself now.

I haven't got 100% facts about this but I am 99% sure they'll crossfit. I do not B8 seats in stock at the moment so that I could check this (only B7 RS4 seats).

My instincts say they won'tfit and require quit a lot of modifications to get them in.

same reason you don't see b5 with b6 or b7 seats in them it'stoo much hassle, and Ithink this will be no different .

B7 RS 4 seats fit into an R8

S3 Buckets fit into an R8 and a B8 RS 5

Therefore the deduction, B8 RS 4 seats fit into a B7

If the runners are the same width then you should be able to drill new holes if the bolts are different positions. If they're not the same width you're looking at welding a plate to one of the runners to change stance of seat before drilling holes. Might put seat slightly off centre. Measure up or get B8 runner measurements from someone and see where you're at. Wiring harnesses can always be modified. In most cases there's usually a way of making it fit one way or another. Just requires the right skills and tools.

When you go to buy the seats, take your front passenger seat out and compare the runners and electrical connections.

Yes I reckon they should fit and if not, then it wouldn't be much modifying to make them fit.

If I had B7 Comfort Seats and didn't fancy the Bucket Seats then the B8 Super Sports seats would be a good half way house.

I can't see them fitting although not sure if they could be modified to !
The fact that the amount of B7s written off in Britain through bucket thefts as Audi say they're no longer available
And sourcing parts to build em is in the region of 16k ! If it were merely changing a subframe b7 to b8 then this would be what the would probably do unless I'm missing something

Audi and insurers will only fit parts that were originally factory fitted, they won't fit non-original parts - and B8 seats in a B7 isn't original.

But I do like the idea of B8 seats in a B7, and from what others have said in this thread I reckon there's a good chance they will, or with little effort can be made to, fit.
