So in simple terms what's better for both cleaning engine and/or performance:-
v Power or 99 Momentum!??

To add another question into the mix, if my car has been mapped on Tesco 99 (by MRC), will switching to V Power have any negative effect?
(main reason is, the nearest Tesco is 11 miles away, nearest shell is less than a mile!!
Sorry to jump in on your thread OP

The difference should be slight enough to not affect the mapping (not sure about Ultimate vs the 99s), but when they were all tested together V-Power was the most consistent tank to tank. I think it was Fifth Gear that did it, testing 5 or 6 petrols in a standard car, a performance car and a remapped car.
Ask Doug though, he'll know for sure.

Mine is stock been using momentum for some time due to fuel vouchers every little helps

.....but have recently switched to V power. I reluctantly can say V power is definitely better slightly more mpg and more importantly feels stronger ?

When my car was at MRC a couple of weeks ago i got a call from Ben asking me what fuel i had in the car. At that paritcular time there was half a tank of BP Ultimate, Doug had it on the rollers and he immediately noticed something wasn't running right after he had mapped it. They emptied out the tank of Ultimate and replaced it with momentum, apparently it made a substantial difference. Ben said as long as the fuel is minimum 99 octane its fine, so V power or momentum fuel it is, not BP Ultimate!

When my FS4 was in at MRC, I had V-Bstard in it and it ran 429 and the timing wasn't as high as expected. MRC rinsed out that, put Tesco99 in and it ran 433.8 484NM.
However, always 99 be it VBstard or Tesco99. Me, I prefer Tesco - it seems to go better but that could be placebo, who knows. MPG? What's that...

ARAL 102 Octane is the best by far !
The thing goes like bloody stink on this stuff, its a shame it's only available in Germany and get this it's cheaper than V-Power and Tesco Momentum.
Anyway I use Tesco. Higher the octane the faster it goes.
6 points on the license yesterday in court

SPEED MATTERS your honours !!
Vroom vroom !

Hi guys.
Just thought I'd throw another one in the mix. I've worked in Motorsport at various levels for 12 years now. One day I decided to ask our fuel guy who supply's our race fuel what is the best pump fuel. He said........total excellium was the purest fuel you can buy. A lot of the others have nasty detergents in them which end up leaving nasty deposits in the engine.
We often used to have a few 50ltr drums left over when our race cars ran 108 octane which we had to dispose of

I had a corrado 16v that used to go like stink on that stuff, and the smell out of the exhaust was something special.

Bloody hell fire get me some 108, I need it !!!!!!
For sure the Aral 102 is good, the difference is so noticeable. The car is alive. God knows what it would be like on 108 octane.

Really some of you guys feel a differance between a 98 Ron over 99 ron and in a Na car ?
I've used a 102 Ron over in Germany felt better but not mind blowing
Maybe you should buy some vp import racing fuel at 125 Ron

My bro seen a 100 bhp gain ( turbo'd car admittedly )

BP is 97 & 2 Star is 95. Try putting 2 Star in, it runs like a dog. So I'd say although marginal 98 to 99 can be felt, especially when you're highly tuned.

Mine gets monumentum normally and occasionally vbastard. Theres not normally any difference but sometimes at quieter shell garages you get a 'bad' tank. Apparently the additives shell use to raise the octane go off fairly quick whereas ethanol in tesco fuel doesn't.
I can't wait to get some 102 in Germany!

I used momentum on my Golf, remapper said it was a bit down and I should change to v-bastard. Been on that since I got the RS4, tried some momentum again and was pleased with the noticeable difference. Tried the second tank and she was running like a dog..... Not ever had that on v-bastard!

I agree, previous owner of mine said he always used VBstard and that's what I used religiously to begin with. But after reading the MRC related threads I started trying momentum and felt mine goes better. Like you say, could be placebo
