Does anyone know this car?

Hi,

I am contemplating B7 RS4 ownership and thinking of going to see this car http://www.jonathandawsoncarsales.co.uk ... ce-histor/ next week.

I'd be interested to know whether anyone knows anything of this car, and any general views on the ad. I've noticed that there's some sort of marking to the paint on the tailgate to the right of the number plate, and the badge in the steering wheel is missing but otherwise - from the pics - seems pretty tidy.

I'm interested because of the location (I live in York) and the colour; guess the light (silver?) leather would not be my choice but the car would not be used hard. I've read the Audi Driver buyers guide, and the Pistonheads one too.

Any thoughts or opinions most welcome. Similarly, any leads for 'known' well sorted Avants either for sale, or likely to be so would be interesting. I'm looking to buy in the next month or so but happy to be patient and/or travel for the right car.

Many thanks

John

It seems like quite a lot of money. If you don't need finance I'd be looking for a private seller. They've generally done a lot of the leg work for you. The chap I bought mine off had owned a few other rs4' and looked at a few other before buying this one. So you already know that he's picked the nicest one he could find for the money.

Don't know it per se, but those discs look scored, steering wheel badge missing (like you say), no Adaptive lights, coming home rear view dimming mirror, but has rear heated seats. Not a massive fan of white comfort seats personally, but never let anyone else's taste steer you.

I would say, with 84k on the clock £22k is high but it is a dealer. I bought mine, larger spec and 38K on the clock for only £1200 more.

If it's near then take a look. See a few to get a true benchmark of whats out there...

Good luck!

Hi John, good colour choice

My observations in addition to yours are:
  • No bucket seats
No auto diming rear view mirror/ auto lights/ auto wipers option
    Front discs look quite worn
    Worn clutch pedal cover
    Poor front bumper alignment
    Mismatching tyres on the rear
A little strong on price considering spec and mileage
Certainly worth going to look it over. I always think that the more cars you view, the clearer it then becomes when a good one pops up.

I have a nice sorted Avant for sale. Only 18k miles more than this one and with more options and having been owned by other forum members is a well cared for car. Been sorted by MRC, DRC replaced with coilovers, discs and pads all good so needs for nothing.Plus mine is much cheaper.
Good luck with your search though as prime examples are hard to find.

Describing the RS4 FBSW as multi-function is misleading, multi-function (MFSW) is always taken to mean volume etc. controls - which the RS4 FBSW certainly does not have.

It looks nice in the pics but the text is a bit sketchy and, as has been said above, in parts inaccurate. The comfort seats and silver colour is a bit Marmite and might affect future sale potential as almost everyone wants buckets. Check the discs carefully and budget about £1800 for new discs and pads (fitted) at a main dealer. Also check paperwork in detail - you've read the buying guides on the forum so look for invoices for DRC, oil cooler/pipes etc.

Even though I didn't, knowing what I know now I'd be inclined to buy from a member here as their cars tend to have been cosseted. Good luck in your search.

Best colour by miles , shocking interior ( cream and comfort seats ) .... That and piano black inlays would have me walking straight away

This would be enough to put me off on an RS4. Seriously.

That and the missing steering wheel badge would be enough to make me worry about whether it had been properly looked after and properly serviced.

The seats and the inlays are a personal choice thing (I have silver comfort seats and love them - they suit my back injury unlike buckets which almost crippled me on the test drive - but I hate the piano black inlays).

At that sort of money you really need to find a car that meets most if not all of your requirements. And this seems to have a handful of negatives before you've even seen it. Keep searching mate

Wow - thank you all!

I thought "I'll just check back and see if there's been a reply" and here we are - 11 of 'em, all helpful! Clearly there are forums and there are *forums*.

Right - I won't bust myself going to see it!!

I'll keep browsing; StevieW is there a link to a for sale ad for your car?

Thanks again.

Regards all

John

That do,s seem overpriced imo even from a dealer. If times on your side just keep searching as they do come up often and if its thru here someone will always know some history. Good luck!
