need advice

Post by geordie jay » Wed Nov 19, 2014 1:57 pm

as some of you may know had me car into audi a couple of weeks ago to get front wings replaced under warranty, problem is since getting it back when I go over some bumps you can hear the front drivers side catching on inner arch somewhere?took it to my mates today and he noticed a flexy pipe weeping,he tried to see if nipple at end was tight enough or needed tightening but said it wouldn't tighten anymore.question is,is this flexy pipe part of the DRC,i know the shocks are fine coz martin put adjustable coilovers on when he had it,just need to know what this flexy pipe is?also there was no sign of wheel catching on inner panel so pretty head scratching?sorry if im going over old threads but all of I can see is about weeping shocks.

cheers jay

From the above its not entirely clear what your suspension setup is?

If you have a full coilover kit then the DRC and associated pipework is now redundant, so you have nothing to worry about other than securing the pipeline out of the way.

If on the other hand your suspension is an adjustable KW spring kit then it retains the DRC system and the wheeping will need to be investigated and fixed.

If the hose is connected to an oem damper then yes it's part of the DRC.

The shocks are standard OEM DRC, but were all replaced for the Gen3 ones (3 just before I bought it and the 4th a year later), and then there's KW adjustable coil springs around them.

If they've knocked something loose fitting the wing then take it back and get them to fix it. I didn't know there were any flexi pipes associated with DRC though, though it was all hard pipes?

The rubbing is probably the wheel arch lining securing screw and clip (at 12 o’clock position). Most owners with lowered suspension would have had it taken out and probably put back in by the bodyshop.

The connection to the damper isn't hard pipe. If it was then fitting the kW adjustable springs would be impossible without depressurising the system. The hydraulic hose might be goosed.

You confused us cos you were referring to the KW adjustable spring kit as coilovers, whereas most people here only refer to coilovers if the have the spring and shock replaced (rather than what you have which is standard shock (DRC) with aftermarket lowering springs).

By all accounts that's cheap if it's the oil lines for the dampers but definitely see if you can get a reduction. Also find out how which lines it is. Both fronts it just one, etc. What is the cause though? Anything they did when fitting the wings? I'm currently drinking Audi's coffee whilst I wait for then to resolve a couple of issues I've found with mine since it was in last week...
