Another exhaust question

Post by Deano_123 » Mon Oct 20, 2014 6:41 pm

I have non resonated centre pipes and Tubi Rumore backboxes, I'd only driven the car once since fitting this all a couple months ago. Got home yesterday and took the car for a drive today, brilliant noise but just far to loud. If I drive this home after 7pm it'll wake up the kid and the wife will kill me

So, anyway, options I have, resonated centre pipes with the Tubi backboxes or non resonated pipes with standard backbox

Thoughts on either of the above options?

Non res with standard boxes will give you the drone and little of the nice bits of the sound IMO. Res with tubi boxes might be better.

But in still keen to meet and hear yours - if you like mine and I like yours... Etc.

The non-res makes it much more liveable. My wife moaned when I used to start the car in the morning, the non-res used to not only wake her up but actually make her jump. No problems when I swapped to the res. Still loud but much less enjoyable to drive. But you don't need to shout in car anymore either.

So this one, what is actually "downpipes"?

I was about getting tubi, but since you Mike told me i was going to wake up the neighborhood i kinda try to get something else that sounds loud when revved but not that loud on idle? (my car is parked 10 meters from peoples bedrooms for 5 floors)

It sounds awesome to drive, the noise on pull away in 1st is unbelievably loud, red lining in first through the middle of Newcastle more than likely made me look a dick but hey ho

I'll try a resonated pipe and see how that goes

Why don't you look at getting valves fitted to tubi backbox and keep the non res??..

Best of both worlds...

2x valves for my custom system were around £150 the pair iirc.

Do tell me more on this sir. As I thought this had been looked into before on the Tubi and was not possible

Did you use the setup from the original backboxes or complete from scratch?

This is what I intended to do but never got round to it. Should be fairly easy being a quad exhaust to stick a valve on either the smaller or bigger tail pipe (not sure how much difference it would make going for one pipe over the other as they're fairly similar I guess).

Does your Tubi back box have a twin exit exhaust into the oval tip or a single exit. If it's the twin then you can get valves fitted. If you go down the valve route try and get Bentley valves as they are less prone to seizing than Audi valves.

I have the normal Tubi and asked mrc if they could fit valves to it and was told they couldn't. If someone knows somewhere that can fit them I'd be interested to know

It's two separate pipes from each back box.

Try J C Weldfab in Wellingborough, they build their own and also do bespoke fabrications, top blokes too.

Thanks Mike, should be able to do then with a competent fabricator :beerchug:
