That's a part of the problem...
2nd gear at 50mph is about 6100rpm. A good 2k rpm left. Also worth bearing in mind that due to gearing, you'll be putting down about 2,300 lb/ft on the wheels.
However
3rd gear at 50mph is about 4200rpm. Well below where you'd want to be (hell, even the power cam change hasn't happened yet). In terms of torque, you are down to 1,500 lb/ft on the wheels.
But... then you have a cross gate shift to deal with.

You've got an N/A car - the big con to this is that you *have* to work it to get the performance out of it. He's turbo charged so has longer gears which all add a little.

Also as above... under 80mph power to weight is a big part of it. As you start to go over 100, then power is king.

Don't pick a fight with a Golf R either, up to a 100 the RS4 will be left behind.

haha some good replies lads, only had car for nearly 2months now and have learnt me lesson when picking a fight.i know the rs4 loves to rev so will be doing that next time.i know she needs a carbon clean coz when giving it the beans it was puffing out smoke when i started nailing it.its got 53k on clock and i dont think its ever had one.but a few of you said its not worth it and save my money so dont know what to do now.i love the car and puts a smile on me face every time i start her up but a remap is defo on the cards.think i really need to get it on rollers to see where i am on BHP.anybody know if revolution has rollers?maybe go down the supercharger route later on lol..at least he didnt have a chance of passing me and was pulling away slightly but still was a shock,if i remember rightly the panels and rear window is plastic on them meganes to save weight..

I had a go at a mates seat cupra yesterday. That's over 220bhp and he tried to get away from me off a roundabout. He got the initial legs on me but by the time I was up into the top of 3rd I was reeling him in quickly and in 4th I could of passed him 2 or 3 times. He was still pulling every hard and I could back off and go again and be all over him. Cheeky little monkey!

Just look at MRC's video of the n/a rs4 vs the supercharged rs4. nearly 200bhp difference and it takes a reasonable distance to pull out a couple car lengths from a rolling start.

In short, you need a lot of power difference to make any noticeable impact.

Yeah I drove the current S3 manual back-to-back with my S4 manual and I'm convinced the S3 was just as fast in the first three gears.

Try having a sc one and a mk2 golf with TT engine hang in there with you! Lol. Disappointed - you don't know the meaning of the word! :-)

Not sure about the above comment but not seen video...
Doesn't make sense to me given that the 3rd gear tests are 5.9 in mine compared to 8+ of a standard one.
That's over 2 seconds in one gear...
Maybe my simple logic doesn't equate to what I think it should on the road...

You think that's bad, I got done by an A4 all road last week... too embarassed to mention it, hanging my head in shame. It was bloody quick, thought to myself maybe it was remapped but it was almost brand new so thought maybe they do a 3 litre turbo jobbie with a low 0-60 so got home and looked it up... the quickest one is 0-60 in 6 something seconds... There's no way that was that slow! The shame...

Yesterday I found a Focus ST/ RS, bright orange and all souped up, on a dual carriageway and he wanted a play so he pulled into the left lane and and I past him he floored it to play catch up, didn't manage to pass me and then hand to pull in behind me, then I hit a double bump in the road and I swear all 4 wheels must have left the groundand came crashing back down then up and down again. He was right up my chuff after that and although I wasn't going all out at this stage he was sticking to me. At the end of the road he pulled up a couple of lanes to my left and was looking over and smiling and giving me acknowlegement that he thorouglhy enjoyed that. Not sure what he liked so much, be it the noise from behind me or the take off or just the car in general. Did that help you forget about the A4 Allroad story? Damn it, I've just reminded you again, haven't I?

Welcome to the world of the B7

I was embarrassed a few times, get caught in wrong gear and a diesel rep mobile will scare you.

All about the weight I'm afraid.....bearing in mind most B7 only knock out 370bhp ish on a good day most quick hot hatches will give it a good run.

I had a a giggle in my B7 with 2.0 turbo Nova!!! Lol....he left me up to 120 for dead...not surprised for a shitty nova that was stripped out ---Embarassing never the less!!

That's when I knew blown engines were the way forward for me!!

I wouldn't worry about racing around town as 0-60 figures as for many cars is around 4 to 5 seconds. But when it comes 0 to 100 mph it sort's out the men from the boys. I will stand corrected on this. Megan's 2011 13.3 and the RS4 B7 10.2. What this says to me is the big fat V8 takes its breath a bit longer (0-60) but when it gets it breath move out of the fuck1ng way as an RS4 really shows its balls of steel over 100mph. Let alone an MRC RS4 B7.

I had the same experience as you in my Sierra cosy upto 100 in the early 90's and wondered why Golf vr6's and Astra 16v's kept up with me. The real test is long European trips especially in Germany when my beautiful darling wife says in my old C63 a couple years ago to Belgrade. I like Germany as we get there quickly. That's because I'm doing 160+ all day long. Let's see a fuck1ing Megane do that without blowing its balls off. Same with the RS4 Calais to Koln we've done it in just over 3 hrs on a good run with clear traffic over the years . Yes 3 hours.

Also let's see a Megane take a family of 4 skiing and whilst driving up the mountain to La Plagne and see the the police stop people for no snow chains and see me in my RS4 and just wave me on.

Don't be disappointed
