Changed to black optics.....

Post by vestax32 » Sat Oct 18, 2014 8:51 am

I just got my car back after having grill and window surrounds wrapped and roof rails done with plasti dip. Also had wheels powder coated & a full machine polish to get rid of swirls. Heres a few pics.....

Any closeups of the wrap? I am thinking of plastidip for the whole trim - I've done my grille and it's lasted really well. Easy to do myself whereas the wrap is not a job I can do so I'd have to pay for it. Interested to hear why you chose wrap not plastidip for the whole trim? Cheers!

I'm not a big fan of black optics except on black RS4s, and yours looks great  I'm thinking of getting my trim wrapped or Plasti-Dipped so would be interests to see more pics and details!

Was done by http://www.oxfordperformanceautos.com
Don't know why they wrapped the window trim rather than plasti dip. They said the roof rails had to be plasti dip as to wrap them to a good finish they would need to be removed, which involves removing the headlining etc, so a non starter. The overall finish is really good, accept a small piece of wrap in the rear quarter window trim which they are re-doing with no quibbles. To wrap the window trim Matt black & grill gloss black, and plastidip roof rails Matt black was £175, reasonable I thought. Will add some more pics when it stops raining!

Yes that's very reasonable! I wouldn't need my grill doing so hopefully a fraction less.

Your car looks basically how I'd like mine. Much envy!

Cheers. It also has a light smoke tint on all windows. I'd like it a bit lower, but will prob swap to b8 in not too distant future so don't want to start messing with suspension etc....,

Looks really nice.

Does anyone know the lifespan of the wrap and can it withstand a pressure washer etc?

£175 is a great price!

This would be useful. The trim round my windows is really looking gash so a silver wrap or P-D would be ideal. That's a really decent price too.

Mine has been pressure washed quite a few times since wrapping my windows with no issues. To be honest I struggled to get the sample section I did off again.

The guys who did it said they had tested the plastidip with a powerful pressure washer and it was fine. I think the issues come if its not done properly in the first place....

I have used plasti dip alot, done 8 sets of wheels, aswell as window trims and grill on 3 different cars - also did a complete car dip on a peugeot 205 once. The dip will not come off if applied correctly! And i live in sweden and the dip on the 205 lasted even in the swedish harsh winter conditions (daily driven aswell). So dont worry about it!

Anyway, nice with black optics. I kinda like it with the rails and window trims matches with the mirror caps, but i kinda want to do it aswell now. Now you just need to dip the wheels aswell ;)

That looks good. Did the window trims stay on to be wrapped? I am curious as to how easy they are to remove/fit new ones really as I will eventually replace my silver ones with new.
