ARB sizes

Post by RS6BRIT » Sat Oct 11, 2014 7:02 pm

just a quick one guys. What part of the ARBs should be measured to know waht size you have ? I want to order a complete polybush set for the breadvan but it asks what size my front and rear ARB's are and gives me 3 options for each. My manual says that I'm on standard SS suspension, but when I measure the front arb with my verniers it comes in at 32mm, and the rear at 21mm, neither of which are options from poly bush !
I think the rear might be 22mm as that is an option but largest size offered for the front is 29mm.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Non SS rear is 20mm
SS rear is 22mm
Front is the same across the B6/7 A4 platform, think its circa 29/30mm IIRC.

Cheers Marc.

I'm in shock that the normal A4s use the same size front ARB as the RS though !

Testament to what quattro GmbH did to the RS I suppose. The S4's have a 20mm rear bar too and they handle very differently. Personally I'd change to the SS rear bar rather than poly bush or even to the 32/24mm H&R bars which will make it handle like a dream but compromise a little ride comfort if you catch any potholes, etc.

RS6BRIT , for info , the DRC is there to stop body roll too , diagonallly linked shockers .... when the car rolls the fluid tries to go to the other shocker as it compresses, the load sensing valve detects this and restricts the flow causing the dampers to resist the roll effect

Cheers for the info guys, although I should perhaps explain a bit better. I have worn lower arms and given that all my suspension bushes have clocked just over 80k now it is a choice to either change the whole lot or poly bush it all.
The complete kits include the arbs so I needed to know what size they should be.
The only trouble is that I'm now thinking that I might have H & R's as my front measures at 32mm with a vernier and 22 mm at the rear !!

Well, if you have H&R roll bars it will have 2 holes at the end , rather than a bolt directly into the end on the front OEM one , which is also hollow , the rear has only one hole on the OEM ,H&R has 2 holes and is a bit thicker when you compare them side by side
