Problems!

Post by frank » Wed Oct 08, 2014 6:53 am

Bad luck lately with the RS4

Being the perfectionist I have recently just spent 000's on disc skim, RS29 pagid pads, braided lines, tyres and new fluid.

Decided to get the clutch done slightly earlier than it needed and went for a Lobos single mass flywheel paddle option (not actually that bad to drive with).

Trouble started when I picked the car up, unfortunately drove her down the road and the engine management came on, codes read ECU fault and Lambda bank1 sensor 2. Battery died too which I cant imagine helped things.

Replaced lambda, no change. Gave up and sent it to MRC on a trailer for carbon clean and sports cats :blackrs4:

Hopefully theyll fix the car while it is there too haha. Suspected problem is theyve crimped a lambda wire somewhere. Other than that the ECU is kanckered and requires a replacement, no explanation for why it died either as yet.

Might have unplugged it as it's right on top side of gearbox

I wished it was that simple. They sourced me a replacement ECU already and completed the CAF, Decoke and inlet flap removal but no luck with the lambda problem even though they have been able to narrow it down to an area of wiring.

Hope they can get it finished today Ive got a track day on Saturday

Update.

Seems that it is very likely that the people who replaced my clutch didn't unplug the reverse switch and in turn it yanked at the wiring and ripped a load of it.

MRC said they have replaced 23 wires and have now refitted the gearbox (for the second time) and will be getting re tested later. I certainly hope this has fixed the problem.

Not nice, any comeback to the place that did the original work?

Tell me about it.

Unfortunately the guy who did it is a mate from school and gave him the work based on him being a mate really. I've send him the email from MRC showing all the damage and pictures but hes basically said nothing. Ill wait for the MRC bill first and approach him afterwards.

It is an innocent mistake, trouble is it has cost me dearly.

True, I don't know how much of a mate he his but if you've known him a long time friendship might be worth more than the money.

If your going back to him would the costs be the diagnosis, labour for gearbox in and out and wire repair?

As you can imagine it has been stewing on me and if it was a proper garage technically they would be liable for everything you have mentioned!

MRC have clearly spent some time diagnosing and repairing the problem. No idea what it is going to cost but common sense tells me diagnosis, labour, gearbox removal and loom repair is going to smart.

So its all done,

The 200cell sport cats, carbon clean and map tweak with CAF now puts out an acceptable 450ps. light at the end of the tunnel after all

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but what other mods do you have now? You've gone from 411ps in august to 450ps now.

Just CAF and a clean? I'm very interested to see where these extra ponies have come from - especially as you are still running cats :) Maybe there's room for more from mine yet still.

As far as I know yes, CAF, 200 cell, Milltek cat back non res (not that they would change alot) carbon clean and a deflapped inlet

Doug did say mine is a pretty happy and healthy engine though. I could probs free another 10ps with full decat but I am too much of a pussy to do that lol.

This is interesting. I'm fully decatted and deflapped with a fresh clean and making 7ps less than your car with cats... What you're saying is that your engine could be 17ps more than mine at the same spec.

I don't think the intake is costing me that much but of course, it could well be - I should do some back to back tests really!

Very possibly mate.

I would definitely try changing the air intake, I just put a performance panel filter in mine.
