Sprint saloon my mods

Post by Robnic » Mon Sep 29, 2014 10:45 pm

This is my third RS4 purchased earlier this year from the original owner with 32k oh and a SC :biggrin3:

My last one was Daytona it didn't have black optics and I think it suits the sprint blue very well especially when coupled with the Ti pack, so I set to putting my stamp on it - hopefully all done in the best possible taste! I have finally uploaded all the pics to Photobucket so will start adding them in the order I've fitted bits starting with the rear LED's

The lights were bought from FK in Germany I was pleased with the quality and think they freshen up the arse end very well in conjunction with LED number plate lights - you have to be careful I think with the number plate lights as I have seen a few cars pass me with far too bright ones which don't look right, I tried the complete lamp but they were too much so changed back to just LED bulbs.

These are the number plate lights for comparison, the one on the nearside is the full lamp - just too bright imo so I've gone with just the bulb change as seen on the offside.

Hi Adrian,

I nearly went the Dectane route but a chap selling some told me (in his opinion) that he didn't like the quality and that was the reason he was flogging them! so i declined and bought new FK ones which I think look nearly O.E. I went with the smoke ones as I was changing to black optics, I did the wrapping myself what a pain think yours is BO factory? judging by your colour coded boot strip?

Next up was to lower it some I'd gone the H&R springs previously but thought I would give the KW spring and adjustable platforms kit a try keeping the DRC as none were leaking. The pictures show how clean this car is, done 32k mostly dry miles :)

A small amount of crust under the nearside rear top arm will be getting attention when parked up over winter!

I had the dectane ones on before but when one of the units failed i replaced it with the FK ones. Yeah, mine has factory black optics :)

Next up Hotchkis anti roll bars or sway bars as the stateside makers call them :)

The rears are adjustable (two hole positions) the fronts when fitted you can only connect the drop links with the weight on the suspension they are way out of line when the suspension is 'hanging' must put a lot of strain on them in use and apparently reading people have had them break so I will be looking into buying some upgraded ones, this mod totally dials out the understeer but are apparently pants in the wet... yet to experience that!

Next up was the 'fried egg' removal from the headlights I'd done this before and left them out on a previous car but this time I'd seen the clear covers only available from a guy in California they were a bit pricey at £50 odd quid imported but give a better OEM finish, so bumper off...

Whilst I was in there I replaced the DRL's with LED 50W upgrades and to stop the fault display soldered some resistors in series and Sikaflexed them to the bodywork - it will help them dissipate the heat they generate as well. These are the best bulbs I've used and are bloody bright!

Also blacked out the chrome reflector inside the headlights with Plasidip, goes well with black optics which is were I'm heading, lights back in

I took the grill surround out to wrap it and snap back in later

Massively missing mine. But I'm in too minds whether to try something different i.e, C6 RS6, B8 RS5 or RS4; or simply go back to a B7. Decisions.....

Started the wrapping with the grill, I've gone black optics on the window trims, I looked at sending my grill for carbon skinning at Aargon but to do that and the boot strip plus B pillar bits and rear window uprights was going to cost over a grand!! So I bought a huge roll of 4D carbon 'look' vinyl off fleabay and although it isn't as nice as my interior trims with the high gloss gel coat finish for me your not looking at both together so with the cost saving I gave it a go and am pleased with the results, friends who've looked say it looks fine, I did think about having the bodyshop lacquer over it but didn't end up bothering, not sure if it would react.

Back on the car, I need to get the number plate plinth sorted I have bought the smooth US spec one from TPS with the strip upper and lower but it hasn't got any PDC sensor holes and if I cut them they will be where the upper strip is, I'm still deciding what to do with it. The number plate is carbon effect letters we had an issue with our number plate machine printer Signam have been out to it and replaced the cartridge the reprinted ones have a much better 'carbon' effect - they gave me some more short acrylics to :)

Thank you, Daytona was my fave colour and first one I had, a friend has it now but Sprint with black ops tips it for me :)

Yes was on here although ended up in a Dutch auction with another guy but fortunately I got the higher bid! The car was a credit to it's first owner who is in the trade like myself and had it loaded on the 2 post lift for me arriving to show how clean it was underneath, it hasn't seen much rain in it's life or winters!

The charger really wakes them up, the MTM one isn't everyone's cup of tea looks wise but I quite like the bulky look, afaik there is only one more RS4 in the UK with one fitted a convertible (think it was mainly taken up by R8 owners down to cost it's n/a now but you can still Google it and find conversion cost at an eyewatering 39,931 Euro + 80 hours fitting at 8,378 Euro) I have spoken to the owner who like mine has done around 20k post conversion with no problems, both fitted by Kim at QST the original owner being in the trade changed the oil yearly it had done 32k when I got it and first job I did was another oil & filter change.

The twin screw type doesn't have the all out 600 + power of the TTS Rotrex type but not being a centrifugal 'turbo' type I think has better mid range which probably suits road use better, although I would like to try a Rotrex converted one :)

Cheers

Rob
