Newbie Requires Help - What to Look For

Post by Mattyboy » Mon Sep 15, 2014 7:57 pm

Hello All

After a long wait I am now looking for an RS4 avant :D and i am seeing my first car at the weekend. The car is a 2007 car, nicely specced with a low 27,000 miles and a full main dealer history.

After trawling the forums my biggest concern is the DRC and i'm wondering if there is any way to tell if the car is on the later V3 shocks, and if not what to check or look for which will point to the DRC being on the way out.

Also are there any other particular things i should check baring the usual??

Any words of wisdom gratefully received

Matt

Matt welcome and FON.

DRC - under the car and a string light will illuminate any struts that are wet or misting. Oil cooler and pipes, check all vacuum related exhaust valves work when warm - cold and they don't necessarily open. Oil changes, is it variable or long life service will give you an indication of how prevous owners approached the car; these like variable and not long life personally.

Check everything! Read the buyers guide here too.

Only practical way is to scan the cars history and paperwork.

If you give the reg number to an Audi dealer they should be able to tell you the DRC history.
Unless of course it was replaced at a specialist like Unit20 like I did, but the likelyhood is if it had an early failures it would be replaced by Audi. Any later changes should be covered in the history paperwork.

Bear in mind DRC issues has effected the minority of cars - it gets a lot of bad press when it fails as costs are extremely high to make it right if not part of an Audi contribution etc. As Adsgreen points out, history tells the cars story, but if there is no mention of DRC replacement to the latest version, do not write the car off!
