KW Lowering springs
KW Lowering springs
It'll no doubt be something ridiculous like that. I find it difficult to believe that he wouldn't have known he'd done it!! I'd have been about £700 better off if I'd just done it myself it c'est la vie. One side is now fitted but I'm still not convinced it's sitting properly on the damper........! Might just arrange for someone to torch it :-/
Re: KW Lowering springs
That's why I would only take mine to Unit20 to get fitted.

What are you calling cheap?MikeFish wrote:That's the thing, Unit20 know what they are doing but are still cheap!!gt2 wrote:Pay peanuts get monkeys
Re: KW Lowering springs
About £55-£60 per hour which is about half a dealer price, but as you may say probably a bit more than a back street garage. Thing is Martin and Lee have a wealth of experience with these cars and hence get things done right the first time, so effectively save you money and you have a pleasant experience as a result. Buy cheap, pay twice is a common saying and it's usually true when it comes to these cars so works to go with a specialist like Unit20. They would also supply the KW's so ensure they are right for your car.
I know this isn't massively helpful after the event though and I really hope you get it sorted ASAP with as little headache as possible. As Sam said, I'd be pissed too.
Good luck buddy.

Re: KW Lowering springs
I agree with you to an extent but the work I was getting done should be bread and butter for any mechanic IMO. It's not like I was asking him to strip the gearbox and rebuild it. Having looked on this forum I knew the pitfalls with this job and even passed on the fact it was an aluminium hub carrier and that it had specific torque values that needed to be adhered to as they were prone to snapping. Clearly this has been ignored. That said I doubt I would have had any of these problems had the parts been correctly manufactured in the first place.marc1 wrote:About £55-£60 per hour which is about half a dealer price, but as you may say probably a bit more than a back street garage. I'm certainly not happy about it. I'm off to see the mechanic tomorrow to see what he has to say for himself.
Oh and a new hub carrier is £328
Re: KW Lowering springs
So I gave up in the end and put it into my local Audi specialists like I should have done in the first place. It needs a wash but here's how it is currently.
Re: KW Lowering springs
So was there anything wrong with the springs you had?
Re: KW Lowering springs
It looks great buddy. I bet you're pleased it's sorted now.
Re: KW Lowering springs
The springs were fine, it was the bush that slides over the damper that was the issue. They are supposed to be a 44mm diamete and mine were 0.3-0.4mm too small but it was enough to stop them fitting on the damper correctly. I use emery paper to take enough off the inner face(as rick did) and allow them to fit.MikeFish wrote:So was there anything wrong with the springs you had?

Is that spring blue? Looks a little different or has it been photoshopped?

Re: KW Lowering springs
Yeah it's sprint blue. No filter or photoshop but I do find it looks very different in varying light conditions
