I think it comes to 143 once you send your old one back but you have to pay the 30 odd quid surcharge in the 1st instance making it nearly 180. Well that's what I paid anyway (minus my 10% discount on the 143).

Think I probably need a starter as well then , about every 10th time i try and start it it refuses

I dip the clutch and push the start button, sometimes it pauses for a second then fires up, other times all I hear is a click behind the dash, if I then push the botton again nothing, but when I release the clutch then dip it again, I can push the starter button and get a click behind the dash

Sound familiar to to others as a failed starter motor?

Yip, exactly the same symptoms as I had mate and it was the starter. It's amazing the difference now the starter was replaced.

So I've replaced both relays and clutch switch and the problem hasn't gone away .

I'm finding when the cars cold that's when it's most likely not wanting to start tho this is not every time .
When the car is warm starts first time every time anyway I'm convinced it's the starter motor and will get it booked in to be replaced .
Funny that vag-com pin pointed it to a relay issue @ £37 each well that was a waste ha

I've a similar type issue, but mine acts up when the car is warm, starts from cold fine.
Pretty sure it's a battery issue as if I make sure auto lights and ancillaries are off it will start..

I had this once on an older car, a real pain at petrol stations where I got stuck a few times; couldn't try jump starting it had to sit there waiting for it to cool down with annoyed motorists cos I was taking up a petrol pump.
Turned out to be the starter solenoid which was sticking when hot. The lights etc didn't make much difference though other than when they are off it gives a little more power to 'unstick' the solenoid.

So had mine I today for a new starter motor
As mike said its loads better before it was like a drained battery now it's like a new battery fitted turns over a lot faster

Was solenoid on my starter causing me problems. After I replaced starter, job done. Not the best of starter motors to access when I done it. Did you do it yourself or it cost a bit to get done?
