Before you read on this is not the torque limit applied via the throttle in 1st-3rd gears,

Evening chaps,

Recently I have been getting a torque reduction when shifting into 2nd. I can pull away normally, go full throttle in 1st then shift to 2nd and floor it again and I get about half a second of "dullness" before the engine springs back to lift. This has happened to be twice, once I shifted at 8k and the other was 6k, no ESP/TC light active on the dash.

Awaiting a friend to come and do some VAGCom logging, but anyone else had this issue?

Have you experienced the same with Traction Control (1xESP button) off?

You need to turn ESP off, then it won't do it.

Thanks for the replies chaps, I didn't think to turn that off because there was no indication on the dash that it was interfering! Shall test it later.

The light doesn't always come especially if it is only a quick one.

If it's happening in the dry on a straight then you need new / better tyres.

Mine does it occasionally on dry and straight on hard changes and i have new Michelin Pilot Super Sports.. I don't think it's actually triggered by a loss of traction.. Something to do with the speed of throttle re-application and timing of the clutch i'm guessing, a pre-emptive thing.. Not sure why as it doesn't seem much use to be honest..

Quite a crude ESP system in general it feels in my opinion

It's better to prevent loss of traction than deal with it after it's already happening.

It's not crude at all - you have the eps fully on why would you want to unbalance and potentially upset the car.

Now... Mashing the throttle after a gear change... That's crude.

We're not talking about mashing the throttle after a gear change.. We're talking making a swift full throttle change from 1st to 2nd.. Nothing crude there..

Besides this is a four wheel drive car.. How much loss of traction are you likely to experience with zero or small steering angle?
Disable ESP and tell me if you see any loss of traction in the same scenario that the system cuts power with ESP fully enabled.. I never have..
Not to mention i've had it come in occasionally from 2nd to 3rd!

You may argue that the dynamics team did this in anticipation of wet driving.. To me having this feature active all the time is crude..

It is a crude system compared to current generation cars, but this is to be expected.. It wasn't so much a criticism but a statement.
