Making claimed BHP

Post by chuckiceman » Thu Aug 28, 2014 6:06 pm

Hello all, I am sure this has been discussed before and everyone I speak to says the RS4 never made the claimed 414bhp. The car I have recently bought was running 380bhp originally and has had an AMD remap with cat back milltek to 406bhp. Is there much else I can do without spending an arm and leg to improve the BHP? AMD said even though the car is fairly low mileage a decoke is probably the best thing I can do. Do you guys agree or any other options? Cheers

Take it to MRC for a carbon clean, and to have the AMD remap replaced with a properly tailored remap from MRC - they know the RS4 better than other tuners in the UK and have a strong reputation on here for delivering the goods.

What sort of price would I be looking at and what sort of power output did you manage to get yours from / to?

I've only had the remap which took me from 377 to 395, others on here have had the carbon clean as well which is generally reckoned to be worth another 30bhp or so which would take it to 425.

Best if those who have had the clean and remap post their numbers.

With a carbon clean, cold air feed, Milltek Valved cat back and stage 2 MRC Map I got 447ps, and was more than happy with that!!

It dyno'd at 397ps prior to any of the above mods :beerchug:

Wow! 447ps is impressive. didn't expect that. What am I looking at price wise for a carbon clean, remap and cold air feed?

With a carbon clean most standard cars will make the standard numbers.
The legend of RS4's not hitting the quoted figures came because lots were being dyno'd and were found low. This was later found out to be due to carbon forming in the engine. Once cleaned they make the normal numbers again, but not for long as carbon starts to build up very again very quickly. Apparently it doesnt make a massive difference to drive though so in my opinion unless you are interested in bragging rights or regualar cleaning it's just not worth it.

I was running 354ps before a decoke, deflap and stage 2 map. Dyno after showed 431ps. That's just numbers though - the seat of my pants say it is a grin inducingly good investment!

Don't forget vacuum leaks rob power too so often multiple problems.

My (old) one made 421 ps after carbon clean at MRC.
With a remap, air filter and miltek it made 446 ps.

+1 on this and I have had both AMD Stage 2 and MRC Stage 2 on mine. I wasn't especially pleased with the difference the AMD map gave me so ended up asking them to remove it before getting MRC to work their magic. The difference was night and day. mine went from 350 up to 431ps after Carbon Clean, Pre cats gutted and Stage 2 and when you first drive it after that you are literally blown away with the difference and realise how under performing your car has been for so long haha

Thanks, Gutting the pre cats seems to be a popular choice with the carbon clean and remap. MRC gave me prices for all three and looks in the region of £2k so think I might have to leave that one until I have a bit more cash! Sounds good though. Gutting the cats unleash any more noise from the car?

Just had this done to mine and its certainly well worth the cost, its now a quick car, before i felt like it was seriously lacking something in fact about 70 horses...!
