Anyone have their speed limiter removed?

Post by Wavey Dynamicist » Thu Aug 21, 2014 4:27 pm

Anyone got their "155" speed limiter removed? Following this, have you tried a VMax run?

Wondering whether it's worth getting it removed, I hit the limiter not long ago (Germany) at ~169 indicated and 165 GPS.. Seemed like 185 at least would be possible and I want to get there.. Anyone done it?

I recall reading the top speed is not far past the 169 or so limit. Somewhere in the 170s?

Well, it was still pulling decently until that point so I'd say otherwise.. Maybe another 15-20..

By gearing 200+ is possible theoretically.. 4k is pretty much bang on 4k and 170 was around 7k give or take.. Can't say I took too long on the rev counter! Lol..

I recall S4Player giving us an authoritative nope on 200+ speeds. The reason was gearing.

Gearing and speed have linear relationship... 100 is around 4k.. Divide 100 by 4 and multiply by 8.25k for redline.. Gives 206mph theoretical.. Also agrees with the fact I was seeing around 7k at 170.

What was said otherwise? No doubt different forms of drag will mean this isn't achievable in reality course..

I recall a few people doing the gearing maths and coming to something like 176 mph, or was it 186? Have a search as the discussion was on here.

I've got an actual 187mph GPS showing 192mph on the clock and I'm sure I could squeeze a bit more out of it. Maybe 1 to 2mph more.
The gearbox is the restriction on RS4s as even the supercharged RS4s can't do more than 200mph.
Vroom vroom, I'll try and get a video as I'm off to the ring in September.

Both of those threads confirm what i'm saying though? Which post says theoretical top speed is less than 200?

If what you're saying is right for example, let's use logic.. I'll assume the 186 is top speed.. That means the 1250 RPM i had left in 6th is only good for 16 mph.. That doesn't compute in any way?

I had my RS optimized after carbon clean and at the same time the speed limiter was removed & rev limiter set to apps.9000 revs.

Top speed I haven't tested;) revs..yes!

Using rpm and gearing gives a theoretical top speed.
chances are total losses will override total power before redline.

Yeah no question it would never reach that speed under it's own power but the confusion above was that it's limited by gearing to 175/185 or whatever which isn't true..
