My RS4 had the optional higher limiter from factory and (without being 100% as I was concentrating more on the tarmac than the speedo) I am sure I peaked at over 175.

I've had a GPS speed (with screenshot as was from video) of 179 with an indicated 185 on the dash. It was still pulling but I ran out of road/minerals.

I would say it's possible for a 190 on the dash, so perhaps a "real" 185 GPS speed. I had a CV boot fail at high speed once and the smoke out the back (as the grease hit the exhausts) scared the life out of me. Luckily wasn't anything worse.

Of course, the power of the car is limiting at these speeds - it maybe geared for 205 or whatever but aero means it cant get there without more power. The supercharged boys could chip in here and tell us their speeds :)

Having done many high speed runs in many cars including B7 RS 4, B8 RS 5, C7 RS 6, R8 V10 / V8, TTRS, RS 3 ... I really struggle to believe the B7 will do any more than 170GPS unless you have a 4mile runway downhill and a tornado behind you.

I've had 170+ on GPS twice - the last time earlier in the week. It'll do it - but yes, it takes a while to get there.

Drag is proportional to the square of speed, so for example 190 to 200mph is a 5% increase, but drag goes up by over 10%.

Top speed is, for the vast majority of road cars, limited by drag rather than gearing - the B7 RS4 being no exception.

You need to jump in my RS4 then and get your GPS out as and see if it matches mine as mine shows 187mph and 192mph on my clock.

Top speed =193 mph (need forced induction to get there). 200+ is possible with one of the superchargers but final drive needs to be adjusted. Very expensive to do properly but I figure if you keep the same tyre width and profile but with 20" wheels you'll have enough 'gearing' to clear 200mph.

I've only got to 160mph (up hill) but it was still pulling very hard so I figure about 180mph but that has been generally dismissed by others here :)

I've put this to rest already :p

178mph/GPS - on video (185mph indicated). And I backed off because a cv boot split and I don't have the minerals to do it again :p
