They'd only entertain a claim if there was a fully documented main dealer history, most here don't value that 4 rings stamp in the book though.

I'll add a +1 for the lads at Unit20. For something like this, I wouldn't go anywhere else. They have a flatbed which will prob cost you a couple hundred, but worth it.

That sounds like one worth following up tbh, 30k is very low mileage so if it's a sweet runner then bargain!

You'll be able to get some cash back off yours by breaking it for spares, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty :)

Hope you manage to sort it

Cheers for the heads up. Have dropped them an email to see if they can fit the engine too.
Also, to see if they can reduce the price by keeping the old engine, and take my old S3 off my hands too!

Thanks again.

3.5k is a lot more expensive than I paid for one a few years back. Think I was 1800 quid for one with FSH and 40k miles

Just an update on my car.

Phoned Vee Dubs in Newcastle and they are going to fit the engine for £1000 max, and also going to look at 02 S3 as part exchange. The new engine has 50k on it.
So looking at 4.5k total, hopefully with 1.5k off for my S3 (hopefully!), so total cost will be 3k.

Going to take the old engine back, strip down the salavageable parts (so if anyone needs some engine parts let me know), or sell it for a few hundred quid (if I can!)
Might even make a coffee table out of the lump!

Anyway, my only concern is they offer a 1 month warranty on the new engine. They had it in for a week, and have videos of it running and whatnot before they took it out, but only 1 month warranty is making me a little concerned. What's other people's opinions? is this normal?

Found the engine on ebay, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-AUDI-RS4 ... 2339505e02

It actually has 62k on it, as opposed to the 50k I was told on the phone (and the 30k in an earlier post).
It has also has the gearbox, which I obviously won't require.
Will have to have a think, as there seems to be a few for a lot less money on ebay

Found another engine now, for 2k, with 60000miles on it.
Phoned Revolution to see how much they'll do the engine swap for me.

So hopefully i'll be looking at around 3-3.5k total bill to get it back on the road.
Much better than the original 10k for the rebuild!

I miss driving my car so much!

Not sure yet. I'm gonn try and sell it or strip it down (with some help) or if all that fails, make it into a coffee table. Ha

Afternoon everyone,

Well I've bought an engine, now i just need to find someone to fit it. Revolution were my first port of call. They have quoted me £2500 to do the swap, i know they're top class but that kind of money is A LOT for me. Does anyone know of anywhere else they'd recommend?

Cheers
James

Glad you are getting things sorted out. Sorry can't recommend any one but I would go with someone who knows what they are doing and will stand behind what they have fitted as these cars can get expensive quickly so last thing you want is 500 later because someone forgot to/didn't renew a clip etc. when they fitted the new engine. Also look at the manifold threads, oil cooler, 2ndry rads as I would be looking at all these at the same time while the engine is out to either make work easier or prevent bills later.

What's the cost of a new clutch versus the labour? Is it worth changing the clutch if it saves a load of money?
Carbon cleaning the new engine would go without saying I'd imagine.
