Adaptive lights

Post by ashy » Thu Aug 14, 2014 8:58 pm

I have had the car a couple of months now and i am getting alot of people flashing me coming the other way. The lights do seem to be a tad high as can see the signs on the side of the roads illuminate quite early. I thought the lights self levelled, they do the side to side up and down thing when you start the car. Is there a way to lower them manually?

There is. Have a look from above on the headlight housing and (from memory) there is a big white plastic screw on each. I don't think they're in the same place left and right housings. Count the number of turns so you don't muck it up! It's a year or two since I did mine and I think even quarter turns make a big difference.

Not really sure why this has to be done since you're right, they are self levelling too. Perhaps the self levelling is only within a limited range?

you cannot just turn screws to adjust headlights, you need to have VCDS (Vagcom) to put the lights in set mode, if you don't the headlights will just keep self adjusting to the preset 'level'.

if could be a faulty level sensor

I did. Or at least I thought I managed it a few years ago! Sorry for misleading you ashy

I am now the proud owner of a VCDS so may have a go this evening.

Just divide the cost of VCDS by the cost of a diagnostic test by an Audi dealer - and VCDS will soon pay for itself.
