Man that looks awesome! I need to save for this! Love my car too much to sell it, but I crave more power

My DIY skills don't stretch this far, impressive you are doing this yourself! Is the install manual comprehensive?

Normally I would agree but for this I would be reading and reading it over and over again.

yer the manual is fairly comprehensive at 87 pages, but there is room for improvement. the manual is for a l/h/d installation so it doesn't cover the differences in the routeing of the new air con lines for a r/h/d car (ill go over the differences in a future post).
jhm have sent me load of supplemental pics of the proposed route for the r/h/d ac lines so im just flipping between the two.
and they have also updated a few parts of the kit since the instructions were done so a couple of torque values were different, i imagine the instructions will be tweaked before the official release.

right back on it...

with the quick mock up done i could check for clearance issues between the charger and bodywork.
i was aware when i bought this kit that a few pieces of bodywork would need trimming due to the size of the charger and the limited room in the rs4's engine bay. jhm recommend trimming the bits in red in the picture below.

the red lines at the top of the picture are cuts in the lip that sticks out on the inner wing, these are then tapped flat with the panel below. if left as is these will saw through the intake and boost pipe in no time at all.
the cuts on the end of the bumper mounts are for clearance for the route the belt takes.
and the red square ish shape at the bottom of the pic is to provide clearance for the intake pipe where it attaches to the charger.

jhm recommend trimming the metal, tapping back any sharp edges and sealing with paint.
being a painter/bodyworker i decided rather than just chop out a bit and tap it back i would cut out a slightly larger area (the blue line on the pic) and let in a plate to finish it off. this is not necessary but i couldn't help myself.

quick plate fabbed up.

edge cut and tapped flat, plate welded in and ground up.

sealed up, primed up and painted.
IMG_20140806_124340.jpg
with this done the only thing left to come in to contact with the charger is part of the engine wiring loom. this is fastened out the way using the now spare bolt hole from where the secondary air injection was removed.

WOW - sar, this is 'proper' job.

Nice work especially the fabbed up plate

next up i fitted a new 034 motorsport torque mount, my original one is starting to split.
old torque mount, you can just make out the split.

piece of cake to fit! as long as you have your front end stripped off that is.

all done.

This installation starting to look a lot more involved than I’d first imagined. Trimming the sub-frame / bodywork to make it fit ...and welding etc.. really ?

Awesome effort though, for doing it.

When have you ever bought a "bolt-on" part that simply bolted on ? Do agree that it is easy to be lulled into the "its a comprehensive kit" and underestimate the degree of mechanical skill expected of the installer.

So jhm say just cut the bodywork and flap it back? That's a bit poor.

However what you have done is awesome

I was quite surprised at this - cut and fold?

If you don't have sar's skills and equipment you kind of need to get that in or use your RS4 to 'practice' on. Yes, bolt-on means just that...

Funny, it's so minor. People cut holes in their FIREWALL to route reservoir lines for their coilovers. If you're iffy about using an angle grinder to cut an inch of superfluous metal off the car, you're not likely to get a catback exhaust never mind a a supercharger.
