chris_m wrote:Sar, are the kits you get pretty much self explanatory? I mean in the hands of a competent mechanic, would it be relatively straight forward without too much trouble? By that I mean are they bolt on and use existing fixing points or is there drilling and tapping involved and do you need to make custom hoses/pipes or is it all in the kit? Roughly how many hours do you think from start to finish is involved with installing one?

Thanks,
Chris.
thinking of getting one like chris???? :biggrin3:

I would love to mate. Just trying to work out if it will be viable for me or not. I am sure it's down on power atm and probably needs a carbon clean or something. Could kill 2 birds with one stone :D

I was booked in at mrc for stage 2, precats removed etc but the car threw up the engine management light and epc light so didn't want to risk driving 4 hours away. It sometimes doesn't rev properly. Must be some kind of safe mode rev limiter as it doesn't rev past 6500 rpm. I need to get it booked back in again to have it sorted out. In fairness, it was looking at the best part of 3k for the stage 2 so kind of think I am a third of the way to a charger... I just keep digging myself deeper
Think I will book it in in the next week or 2 because it's just not running right.

I don't really fancy a b8 to be honest mate. I cant really see how it is any better than the b7. For one, you can't get a saloon should you want one lol and all the vids I have watched, the silly things like steering put me off. If I change from my b7, I want something better in all aspects, not just one or 2 and something I could tune some. You wanting a b8?

I was parked next to one at thimbleby a few weeks ago. They do look nice up close I must admit. 3k was not just a map mate, was health check, pre cats removed, cold air feed, stage 2 map, carbon clean. Was quoted about 2.5k for all the work and just rounded up for fuel to drive there followed by my brother to bring me back and that again when picking the car up. It needs done, I am just putting off the inevitable. It's a bit of an inconvenience that's all.

B8 is incrementally better is most aspects, other than the on centre steering feel. Once loaded up, the feel is fine though.

Like everything in life, there is always an element of compromise.
