Brake upgrade?

Post by Regy53 » Mon Jun 09, 2014 10:08 pm

Hi Guys,

im sure its done to death but on my first drive in anger tonight in my RS4 I very quickly and disappointingly found the limit of the brakes with a lot of fade.

Without going stupid with ceramics or even discs has anybody found it to be much better with pads such as DS2500's or another brand? I am told the standard Audi pads are what I have now.

many thanks

Ross

Is the ds2500s much better than stock?

New rs4 owner here, in truth I thought the brakes would be better, pretty sure I'm running stock pads too. The brakes on the rs4 look massive, and I was expecting massive stopping power too

Iv had ds2500 on my gtr and though they were good

My Rs4 is for road use, unsure yet if il track it, would ds2500 be a good choice for rs4 used as a daily driver

I have just given the rs4 death round cadwell this weekend and on brand new discs and pads (well, 500 miles old) I was running out of brakes. Fluid was changed 2 months ago.

I'm now contemplating something like RC5+ pads as in my 106 turbo they are epic. But something needs to change. Standard pads are adequate for the road but bugger me I lost confidence in them on track lol

At the risk of some self promotion, you may find my appraisal of my upgrade useful:

I would definitely do pads first, see how you get on. I've been running Pagid RS4-2s for a while and am largely happy, although will be trying different pads next time in an attempt to counteract build up and therefore reduce the judder.

I ran my car for five years and got through 2 sets of discs I used EBC yellow stuff pads first then the DS 2500
DS' are the best out the 2 but the yellow stuff really are not far behind, I never sufferd any problems with my discs,no wheel wobble, just good brakes the whole time

2 questions;

Did you ever use the car on track?

What kind of mileage did you get out of a set of discs?

First set of discs at around 40-45k sold car at just under 70k discs still going strong, didn't track the car but drove it hard
Rear discs I never replaced, having said that they could have done with being replaced at around 75k

I'm just getting a price on rc5+ pads as that's what I ran on my Peugeot 106 and they were invincible. Appreciate the breadvan is double the weight (literally) but the 106 needed regular slowing down from 160mph too!
