I think the APR map is very generic (obviously).
The MRC maps are tuned to your car.
Also, last time I asked the APR maps didn’t have the cold cold-start-delete.

Be interested to hear what they’re offering now though.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, i know guys rave about apr maps on other vag's mostly turbo cars though...cant seem to find much feedback on the rs4 though...

Im considering going for a custom map from ecotune uk, that includes, full throttle 1-3 gears, SAI delete (after exhaust gets fitted) sport mode more agressive, vmax off....

I tried APR and the tinming was too high & hence not good.
Doug remapped my car to perfection.

I had a 'quick' decoke and a stage2 done in a day at MRC - It was a VERY long day for me - mind you and I did have a sleep on the sofa in the waiting room. Banbury's a nice little town for a lunch time 1/2 and a ploughmans. I took the iPad as well and crammed a couple of movies in as well. You could always ask about getting your motor transported down to them.

I'll be going back to them later this year for a pre SPA Francorchamps visit [see the track days section] clutch/flywheel/brake service - but I'll leave it with them this time and wont be catching any flies on the sofa!

Remote mapping will only work AFTER you send them the CPU for the first setup... after that, they can remote map.

The APR RS4 tune doesn't have much of a history. Never have we seen any performance testing done.

Owners have recently dyno'd a few B7 RS4s on a dyno in California at 034 motorsports, all the same week so the data is reasonable for comparison. 2 of whom had an APR tune, the other was stock tune. One did stock vs APR same day.

The results were pretty terrible for APR frankly. All dyno numbers at the wheels (net of losses...no rundown or calculation)

Car 1 - BenSTI, freshly carbon cleaned
full ebwerks catless exhaust STOCK tune - 328 WHP
full ebwerks catless exhaust APR tune - 325 WHP

tune delta = -3 WHP . Yikes.

Car 2 - meem, freshly carbon cleaned
stock downpipes with cats, AWE catback exhaust, APR tune - 327 WHP

interesting to note that the ebwerks downpipes + catback did absolutely nothing vs. stock downpipes and the AWE catback. We have analysed this recently in a thread on audirevolution and found similar (lacking) results with ebwerks and their exhaust systems in performance testing.

Car 3 - RS4max - freshly carbon cleaned
stock downpipes with cats, AWE catback exhaust, STOCK tune - 328 WHP

Comparing meem to RS4max, it's not looking so good for APR on the RS4. They had the same mods, and there was no difference between stock tune and APR tune.

Bottom line? If you would love to get MRC, they have lots of satisfied customers.

If you're not able to justify the trip, and want a solution that doesn't require the dyno, and happens to have produced all of the highest dyno numbers and fastest acceleration tests, have a look at the JHM tune. You can flash your own car remotely with their cable. A few users here have the tune and can share their thoughts. We've (in RS4 owners in north america) tested every single tune out there from custom dyno tunes to the big company off the shelf tunes like APR/GIAC and whenever the cars are compared head to head, JHM cars come out on top in every race. It's pretty compelling.

Just be patient and get MRC if that's what you want.

No need to rush the decision as it's not going to be earth shattering getting a remap done...nor is it like you won't be able to enjoy it for years. If you rush into something else you will ultimately regret it and go another direction. As with buying tools, buy it nice, or buy it twice.
