My vote would be for a looked after high miler with FSH, not necessarily FASH but at least from a decent inde.
Of course a "forum" car would be the ideal, if one happens to come up.

personally i wouldn't worry too much about mileage - mine is at 96k and I have had people say on numerous occasion how they cannot believe it has that on the clock based on the condition and how it drives, Rob at Camberley Audi said to me last year that the best, tightest RS4 he had ever driven had 140k on the clock ha - the way the car has been looked after is way more important than mileage IMHO.

High miles every day of the week over a CAT D , I personally would not buy a car on the register , buy the best you can for the money , spend time looking,
All the best

High miles every day of the week -As said before, it may have high miles but if it's been well looked after, it makes no odds.
High miles can easily still be mint:

Agree with the others - high miles every time
If you keep the car for a while and look after it, and especially if you don't do that many miles in it, the residuals will even themselves out and the value will come back to you
A Cat D on the other hand will always be a Cat D, and its value will always be dented
good luck with the search - but has no-one said
FON? - what were they thinking?
FON!

I'd echo what's already been said about a high miler over a Cat D. However, it's essential IMO to have a slush fund for repairs and not just scrape enough together to buy one without some spare cash.
Good luck with your search and welcome to the fold.

I would suggest neither...as in do not buy an RS4 if cost is the barrier to entry . Not an ideal car for bargain hunting.
Want a new engine because the high mile or cat d car you have has a problem they didn't tell you about? Sure. Only about 10,000 pounds installed.

Here's a spanner in the works then, what if that cat d has only had its seats stolen no other damage to engine, bodywork etc full service history does that not make it a viable option, or would all go for the high mileage ?

a decent high mileage car with a good history and condition would be my choice. in fact its what i done on a 90k miler with a great history and condition.

I'd do high miles still if the car was cat d due to seats etc...
