I'm looking at maybe upgrading the cars exhaust system for something a bit louder to really show off the sound of the beautiful V8!

I'd prefer Non-res but would like to keep the valves

Would anyone recommend an upgraded airbox aswell or would it not be worth doing?

Hi Smithy, have a look a bit further down on this section of the forum, it seems that there are a few systems available for every taste, regarding an upgrade to the airbox, do it before you get a loud exhaust, as you wont hear to much of it cos you'll be hitting the loud pedal at every opportunity.

I'm extremely biased as I have just had a bespoke system fitted by JC Weldfab in Wellingborough and it is awesome. There are lots to choose from but don't get one from a cheap tyre and exhaust place, it wont do it any justice

Go direct cold air feed, after market air box will just give more induction noise with no gains

Depends on the sound you want and how much you've got to spend.
There are recent threads (postings on them today) regarding the Capristo exhaust and the JCWeldfab one too. The obvious and most popular choice is the Milltek. Tubi is not an option if you want valves unless you get it modded afterwards.
A modified airbox will make a nice sound or go for the Revolution carbon air intake for great looks and noise but no power gain, the standard box is already pretty good. And if you get a noisy exhaust you won't hear any of them anyway.

Fella - please take a few mins to do a search - there are plenty of comments / threads here about your options for an exhaust.
My personal advice is to get one made to your requirements [[EG Vortex Exhausts or JC WeldFab] rather than wasting money on a off the shelf option.

As for the airbox, personally, I would not touch it except for dropping in a K&N filter - I believe Audi did a good job on it and it has additional features such as additional valves ETC to assist with variable engine needs.

If you really want to look at the engine's air flow requirements, there are a few options to look into. Firstly, somebody like MRC will set you up with a cold air feed - which means you would loose the drivers side aux rad and a flex pipe is routed up to the air box feed or to an aftermarket cone filter setup. If you are handy with the spanners or with fabrication, you could set something up yourself as a couple of guys on here have done so. If you go with an aftermarket cone setup with out the cold air feed your performance will suffer with heat soak [hot engine bay air being sucked back into the engine] and this will actually negatively affect performance.

If you do stay with the Audi air box as it does a good job, like Sync mentions, simply drop a K&N in and job done - essentially what I did to mine.

Nope - you need to go to an aftermarket tuner and apply a mapping change to the engine ECUs.

My only concern with the K&N filter is like the Revolution units they are oiled - worries me about the maf getting clogged.

The Revolution ones are no longer oiled.

Nick - as adsgreen mentions, that's not possible with VCDS. MRC stage 2 map addressed this for me - that's their cold/quiet start mode. It starts and drops to normal revs within 2-3 seconds...

Not sure the K&N has enough oil in to clog the MAF - it's quite a heavy viscosity, however...

More a concern, is when I changed my power flap solenoid and lower air box due to the power flap not working, I've ran a K&N for a few months now, and due to it sitting upright in the air box, gravity has taken it's toll and a I can see some small residual oil seeping to the bottom of the air box form the K&N. Now the lower air box is switched and the internal are spotless, I've now fitted a PiperCross filter to ensure no oil is inside the air box. The internals of the MAF ducting were spotless, but equally I'm taking no chances...
