MK2 Golf run in...

Now I know a bit about modded cars in terms of real world performance but was shocked tonight by a golf GTI.
Bit of dual carriageway and this golf sped up of the slow lane and dropped on my rear bumper. So I floored it in sixth, had a feeling it was tricky..
Well I put a cars length between us from 80 to 110 ish. I stayed in 6th.
We hit the next bypass and I went from 3rd and he was pretty much there, maybe 2 car lengths.
He pulled up at side of me and I said "that's a quick one" he said modestly "yeah it's not bad, 1.8 turbo with 260hp"
He said is that a TTS with 600 I said a by embarrassingly - "yep" and laughed. He laughed and said I'd take it back!
Cheeky young scrote!
Either he was underselling the cars performance or the RS needs looking at!
I am guessing it's not 260hp!!!!
Arthur test later to see what it pulls as a bit of an indication!!!

Its all about power to weight. Its likely to be around 1000 kg or less, hence has a power to weight around an original GT3

Yeah, I figured it was probably 5-700 less and of course less losses... Fwd.
Tbh - it was a nice car. Big bumper, pal green, good nick from when he pulled up alongside

Well calling it as a quick golf!
Done 4 3k-8k runs
Even with margin of error (can't quite remember the rules!

)
5.6
6.1
5.9
6.0
I guess at this it's running there at there about as it should.
It bloody felt quick once into 5-6000 revs!

MKI with 260 would be rapid no doubt.
Light as a feather.

A brand spanking white M3 tried it on late one Monday night on M1.
Wasted him on 2 occasions. He squirted it along side me after riding my ass for a few miles tried to overtake. when he was level I floored it and kept him out and then put loads of space between us.
He'd have been fed up.
He tried again further on with same result.
Probably thought he'd bought the wrong car
Not sure if he would suspect it was charged either. Who knows.
I don't advocate racing either btw! I generally just give it a squirt when it's quiet or safe to do so!

I used to have a supercharged mk3 vr6 running circa 300hp, I had it when B7 RS4's were brand new (2006).
I had a run in with one and it couldn't leave me 0-100, I remember things got a tad 'who's got the biggest kahonas' - so I backed off, I don't think he was happy his new 60k motor was being given a spank.
At the time a friend of mine was running a stripped out Mk2 with a 1.8t lump and a GT28RS, that thing would destroy me, the damn thing ate a Nobel M12 on the way to the ring in 4th!
However, I was a death box, pure and simple - scared the <beep> out of me, death would have been instant, but fook
it was quick.
Anyone seen the black Mk2 that does sub 10's at SantaPod? Not sure it handles though!! Lol

I've got a mk2 Golf with an R32 engine, mapped to around 280bhp.
As Ian_C said it's the power to weight that makes it, the acceleration is brutal and so much fun.

I love old "sleepers".
So many options with the golfs.
Mk2 vr6 sounds sweet.
I still think the kids running more than 260... He was having a bit of fun with me I think.
Even so - rapido.
JBS are local to me so no doubt they will know it...

I had a 2006 Gti which i had re-mapped to 250bhp
Bloody hell no joke it was damn quick, my old E46 M3 would've had no chance.
It was a right handful in the wet though bit like my Mrs Polo G40 - now that was a mental car.

It can be done!
I used to hillclimb a Mk1 2.0L Oettinger. 260Bhp at the wheels - insanely twitchy handling made worse / better by sticky Hoosier tyres.
Mak.
