Lumpy idle, camshaft timing out

Post by Rs-mad-burfy » Wed Apr 23, 2014 9:47 pm

Hi all,

My motor suddenly developed very lumpy idling, the car was shaking violently.
Took it to a AudiVw specialist today.. They red the fault codes, and said that the cam timing is out,
The guy said he is hoping its the solenoid that controls the variable valve timing that mybe the problem?
I really hope I don't have to pull the engine to replace chain guides ect...
I don't have the code, 06 plate RS4 120k

What do you think?

Cheers Andy

Is it only at idle?
The code is quite specific for the cam angle motor so should be ok.

Hi all,

Yeah it was the cam timing control solenoid, but more bad news- I now get a very louch chain rattle on every startup that lasts for about 3-4 mins, I hold the revs up at 3-4k where the rattle disapears for this time, then its ok, but the chain system needs replacing :(
