H&R coil overs fitted - I don't like it :-(

Post by theboyleach » Sun Apr 20, 2014 11:38 pm

Hi

I recently had H&R coil overs fitted to mt RS4 cab.
I knew they would be a bit lower but didn't realise quite as much as it is!
Being a cab the rear seems to sit lower as standard anyway but now the tyres are up in the arches. The rear adjustment is as high as it will go. A little over in fact.
I am considering re fitting the standard rear springs to increase the ride height slightly, what do you think?
Will the H&R struts have enough movement to allow a longer spring?
Is there an aftermarket spacer kit available?
I'm presuming the correct kit was fitted as it was done at a reputable tuning specialists in St. Albans.

I wanted a standard looking car, the front is fine, just the rear is a problem.

It handles amazingly now I must admit!

Any feedback/ info much appreciated.

Cheers

The KW V3 kit comes in two different types, one for the saloon and one for the heavier at the rear Avant and Cab.I don't thing H&R do separate versions of their kit.
If you have the back end set as high as it can go then I would say the spring rate at the rear is too low causing too much sag.

Not sure if the old springs would fit on the coilovers.

You don't need longer replacement springs, you need springs with a higher spring rate but with the same total free length so they still fit.

Might be worth contacting H&R direct to explain your problem and see if they can supply firmer springs?

I find that getting rid of the dead prostitutes in the boot helps lift the rear end a bit.

I'd say the front needs a bit of fettling to match the rear. Looks like there could be some reverse rake going in there!

Front needs to come down a couple of inches !!

Double check that they fitted the rears correctly and pressed the rubber spring seat into the adjustable cup which should be at the top - they did a trial fit on mine and had assumed the adjuster platform sat at the bottom as per another set of coilovers they had fitted and hence lowered the rear an extra inch !! All sorted once the cup was in the right place - it needs lube and at least 2 ton pressure to persuade in there !!

I love my H&'s and dont find them harsh at all, I have set them slightly too low for the state of our roads at the moment, and it no longer goes over big speed humps, but it handles like a bastard !! lol

The adjuster cup is on the bottom of the spring!!!
Does this mean they have been fitted incorrectly???
