Will also be watching this one, great little summary above.
I'm also going to upgrade from the Bose system at some point in the future.
What size are the mids in the doors?

Nice! I see why it's taken you some time!
How are you going to connect to the battery? I had to bend a terminal to get it connected to the original battery terminal. And it doesn't look like there is any room for the power cable to pass through your woodwork, or will you keep it above the wood straight to the fuse block there?

happy with the fit of the sub box and shelf i wrapped them in carpet. i already had some carpet that is a good match to oem.
a good coat of glue and its ready to wrap.

mike i have just looked at my battery and see what you mean about needing to bend terminal, hopefully i will get time tomorrow to sort it. and yer i was just gona run the main live and earth cables over the top of the wood straight into the fuse/distribution block.MikeFish wrote:Nice! Re: BOSE------->BIN!. audio install ramble inside.
now that the shelf and sub box are carpeted i started to to run the lives and earths for the amps.
it looked easy enough so i ordered some vann damme classic instrument cable and some rca plugs and warmed up the soldering iron. all done!.
i needed some really short rca/phono leads and loads of people on talkaudio and diymobileaudio were making their own custom length leads.it looked easy enough so i ordered some vann damme classic instrument cable and some rca plugs and warmed up the soldering iron. all done!.

while i was on soldering i thought i would tackle the bose amp plug loom, another idea i pinched from mikefish's build.
the benefit of doing it this way is you do not have to splice into your wiring loom at any point so if you sell up and want to re install the bose system its easy, just plug and play.
the only downside is you need to find and buy an old bose amp for the connector, i paid about £30 for one on ebay.de.
here is the bose amp with the needed connector. strip the amp and remove the connector off the main board, your then left with this. the pins i need to use are -
pin 6. this is the remote turn on from head unit.
pin 19. line out-left front from head unit.
pin 20. line out-right front from head unit.
pin 7. line out ground from head unit.
remote wire attached to pin 6. this will plug straight into the mosconi and then loop into each amp, so when i turn on the head unit it will turn on on the processor and amps. line out left and right front attached to pin 19 and 20. line out left and right ground attach to the same pin, ground pin7. finished up by adding a couple of rca/phono plugs, job done.

Re: BOSE------->BIN!. audio install ramble inside.
Be careful with that remote wire. It is not just live when the stereo is on, it actually fired up as soon as you open the door and will stay on for 30 mins (assuming you don't start the car) or for 30 seconds after you get out and lock the car. This can quickly drain your battery if you are getting in and out if the car but not locking the doors each time (such as when you are working on the car).

thanks mike i will bare that in mind.MikeFish wrote:Be careful with that remote wire. finishing up the wiring on the shelf.
i can wire everything up out of the car, then drop it in the boot and connect the main live and earth and plug the speakers in.

Re: BOSE------->BIN!. audio install ramble inside.
the next job on the list was to run the speaker wires.
pretty straight forward really, i removed the back seats and all the inner sill plastics and the b pillar bottom trims and just tucked the speaker wires under the carpet at each side and ran them up to the front footwells.
the more difficult part is getting the wires through the a pillars into the doors, the wiring loom for the doors plugs into a connector in the a pillar leaving little room for the additional wires.
i used 2.5mm speaker wire and there was just enough room for one under the connector and one to the side. then feed through the rubber gaiter and into the door.

now the speaker wires are in its time to fit the mids and tweeters.
in the rs4 the mids are attached to the door frame and the tweeters are attached to the door pad.
the door pads are easy to remove, once striped you can see the bose speaker attached to the door frame. here is the offending item removed from the door, along with its replacements. the tweeters are more or less a direct fit in the original grill. they are ever so slightly larger than the original tweeters so i filed down a couple of ridges about 0.5mm high on the inside of the grill and the new tweeters are a nice snug fit.
original tweeter still in the grill oem tweeter removed from grill, new tweeter ready to go in morel tweeter fitted in the grill grill and tweeter back in the door pad
