Re-coding a key - Edit

Post by wrekka » Sat Apr 19, 2014 10:34 pm

I can not believe the joker at Audi telling me that it would take 1.5-2hours to re-code a key and that they would have to plug their version of VAGcom in to do it; costing £55+vat!! It literally has just taken me 30 seconds to do it myself. He made a point of saying that I would not be able to do it and that is why I posted on here. Thanks for the advice on here!!

Went into Audi on Thursday about getting a new battery for the spare key as it had gone flat.

As well as the service manager looking at me like dog s**t when he saw the RS4, he told me the key had to be re-coded at a cost of £55+vat!! I said that seems a lot to re-code a key. He stated that it would take between 1.5 and 2 hours because it is quite a detailed procedure and I need to book the car in. Obviously I didn't.

Any advice on how to get the key re-coded?

Ok cheers. It was just that the guy at Audi said that the battery had been flat for too long and it needed completely re-coding which involved plugging their equivalent to Vagcom in. I do not have that.

Anyone close by with VCDS? Otherwise, buy it. A real 'go to' for an RS owner - it'll be worth the money... :beerchug:

A lot of people get stiffed , I use one person for my routine stuff on all cars / vans unless it has to go to the dealers for warranty work and I trust him as he does not bull <beep> me .... Honesty is paramount and if it's GOT to cost x or y or has to involve a , b or c fair enough . Non of this split the atom <beep> then really it's <beep> all but here's your bill sir for several hundred pound with a jolly nice smile :assflash:
