Anyone had experience of having Stern engine mounts fitted instead of OE versions??

Not heard of anyone on here having them - Interested to hear why you would want to not go OEM and do yours need replacing?

One of mine is throwing an error in Vagcom... The Stern ones appear to be better built for a better price... I would like get any opinions from anyone who's had them fitted or fits them?

The OEM ones are active engine mounts and the Stern ones mention a resistor to stop the car showing error codes which makes me think that they are a non-active type.

The OEM ones are not that expensive, firm up under hard acceleration and soften again when under normal load to improve NVH levels.

A few years ago I worked on controlling active engine mounts and we had several test mules fitted with engine mounts and the difference between a well controlled active mounts and a passive mount is huge. If the passive mount is too soft you can get serious secondary ride issues (especially with a large heavy engine), but if the passive mount is too hard then you get lots of unpleasant engine harmonic vibrations into the bodywork.

I'd stick with the OEM active mounts.

No experience of these mounts but they can't be that bad as you can't really see the engine move much when it's rev'ed and it's pretty soft.
A good video of the difference for some oem stock mounts - http://www.111hq.com/
And that's on an engine of only 190ps / 150lb/ft... Can't imagine what double would be doing if it wasn't properly sorted!
I've had these fitted on track cars and they really really do shake rattle and roll. Fine for a fun car but pretty hateful on the road.
That being said, they really do change the engine responsiveness - there's no delay between a throttle input and the reaction from the wheels.

Stay OEM.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
