Probably best if I just say they are part of an aftermarket parking distance system.

Always thought it's a bit sad that you feel the need to have them?RossDagley wrote:Probably best if I just say they are part of an aftermarket parking distance system.
The RS4 'looks' is enough for most road users to get out of the way; failing that, the V8 gets you past easily enough. Each to their own I guess.

Re: Drug dealer breadvan RS4
Well, I've had much dilemma over keeping the car or moving to a c6 rs6. I test drove the one at watford audi and fell in love but they wanted too much money for the car and just wouldn't budge on price so I walked away.
Anyway. A long chat to the wife about an expectation reset on my part and a real think on what I want from a car and I'm not sure the rs6 is the right move just yet. I'm still really torn though BUT what I actually want is "faster" without sacrificing the 4's amazing handling and character.
It's pointless me looking at boosting the 4 - Id never save up that kind of money for one purpose and the money you spend on modified cars you rarely see a 10th back on at resale so that's a no really.
Which got me thinking. If you've seen me spam the forum over the last few weeks it's mostly been posts about brakes which on the 4 (certainly on my car) massively let the car down. It really doesn't inspire any confidence at all. So (long story short) I think I need to do something with that before making a decision to swap into the 6. I don't need to make the car that much faster in a straight line as it's pretty quick already, but what I do need it total faith in the Bears. No judder and eyeball popping stopping.
I fear ceramics are the only way to go here but dammit the cost - it's a huge chunk of cash for a car part and even selling my brakes I'll still be down something like £4k - so hard to decide!
I think what I'll do is try a set of red stuff or ds3000 pads on a larger rotor - JHM etc and see how I fair with that. It's a price compromise to the commitment of ceramics but hopefully with 90% performance.
Sorry for rambling! More documenting my ideas so when I look back in a years time I can laugh at myself for my indecision!
In other news, collected car a few days ago from MRC for the repair to the power steering line. Really missed driving it even though it had only been with mrc for 10 days or so it was like returning to an old friend so I'm still in love with her... Those decats though. The noise
Put her through an mot also this week - passed with flying colours thank god - just the advisories for undertray/engine tray covering some parts etc.
That's it for now!

Re: Drug dealer breadvan RS4
How much different would the handling be between the rs4 and 6? They weigh about the same and with the same work could they not be equivalent?
I think I was in Watford Audi looking at it when you were there. It was lovely but too much.

Ah I wondered if the other person looking was a forum member yeah it was expensive.Shinobi675 wrote:How much different would the handling be between the rs4 and 6? They weigh about the same and with the same work could they not be equivalent?

I was there about 2 hours negotiating- but they wouldn't back down on price citing repair costs from when they took it in.
I see its £1500 less now though than when we saw it and iirc it's tax is due this month so that's another £500 they'll lose.
Oh - worth mentioning it doesn't have 53k as advertised either but was on 59500 when I saw it - would be more now as I think every salesman gets it at the weekend for salesman of the week right now...
The handling would need some serious money thrown at it to be remotely comparable to a 4 - remember 4=nimble, 6=barge.

Re: Drug dealer breadvan RS4
Yer I noticed the money! That was the first I looked at, I ended up with the black one from gatwick honda. Loving it so far! Nurburgring next week to see just how much work the handling and brakes need.
It doesn't actually handle that badly for the weight, lots of over steer but it's actually pretty predictable which makes it less of an issue, there's another thread about tyres that I'm reading with interest. Lots of talk about oem branded tyres. I don't think I've ever put those on by choice, they're generic, I want stickie! I'm wondering if I do need to go the whole hog and replace the DRC or if the springs can be updated (seen a kW set) to make enough difference to bother. But... I'm current thinking that after a few days at the ring I'll end up focusing on braking the barge more than tossing it around first!

Re: Drug dealer breadvan RS4
Exactly my issues with braking. I don't really need a much "faster" car for the ring, but mega brakes mean I can use much more of what's available.
I'm sure I'll be more satisfied once I've sorted these bloody brakes!

Let me know what you chose, I think I'll start looking seriously at them next spring, then I can go over the underside of the car at the same time and make sure winter hasn't attacked it too badly.

Re: Drug dealer breadvan RS4
So, todays job was the bluetooth retrofit - using a genuine audi bluetooth setup it was pretty painless. Took a moment to figure out I needed to reset the RNSE after the coding changes but it's now working nicely. Sync's my iPhone 5S contact list, recent/missed calls etc. All in all, something I've been missing and waiting to get installed! Really pleased it's in.
Passenger seat removed and glovebox out (getting handy at the glovebox from my media centre install!) but other than that was easy as pie.
Speaking of media centre... Having now got an apple TV in the living room, I really fancy one in the car. So - I think before long I'll be swapping out my Pi media centre for an apple TV. Just need to sort the bits that go with it. It'll need a wifi access point (proper one, not the ad-hoc one I use for the media centre), some way of storing the media, sync issues to think about etc. Shouldn't be too hard hopefully!

What parts are needed exactly to install the Bluetooth set up? Been missing this on mine as even my old 3.0tdi had it.

That's for a TT so the mic is different, but fundamentally what you see there.
I paid £150 delivered for mine so think I got a bargain

Re: Drug dealer breadvan RS4
Todays job was the drivers side front wheel arch trim - the tyre had worn through in places - I don't know why really - probably where the DRC was low and the car driven on it for a while. Anyway - one of those small things that bothered me a lot. I'd like to take the chance to say I wish I'd paid someone else to do it lol. Easy to get off, what a bugger getting all the screws lined up on fitting the new one!
New rear brake pads (EBC yellow stuff) arrived - waiting to fit. Also on the shelf is a powerflex rear diff polybush mount. I'll do that at the same time as the H&R bars when I get those (ideally before the ring trip but only if I have time).
On that subject, the last Nurburgring trip of the year is 2 weeks away (weather pending still). yippee.
