Review of my new car - F10 m5 vs B7 RS4

So i have literally spent months considering what to buy as my next car...The list originally consisted of the following but after driving them all, the M5 was the most obvious choice
C63 AMG estate
B8 RS4
RS6 (non the latest)
F10 M5
So after much searching for the right specced car and after much waiting for the car to be prepped and ready for me to view, I finally went up to Sytner Sheffield on the weekend to view and hopefully buy my M5 (2011) and buy I did...Big thumbs up to Andy from the delearship!
The train ride up was fairly nerve racking as im always a little dubious about buying a second hand car, especially one like this that costs so much but as soon as I saw the car I knew that she was the one...The delear had re-sprayed the rear bumper, added 4 new tyres and thoroughly detailed the car so she was looking as good as new so after a good test drive we did the deal and that was that! finally....
Now from the drive back from Sheffiled to London...Ill try to summarise my first impressions. Im coming from an RS4 avant, not as quick but still quick with the stability of 4wd so Im fairly used to quick cars
So....Wow this M5 is quick on a completely different level! Power delivery is just incredible at all levels within the rev range and the DCT is just brilliant, absolutely brilliant..
She definately feels like a large car and the fact that it is Rear wheel drive will take some getting used to on my part but overall I cant believe a car of this size can do what it can...
I have to admit, Im not sure I understand why so many people complain about the noise or lack of noise of the car...With the windows down, the noise of the turbo's spooling up with a hint of induction noise is just addictive and the cracks and bangs that go along with that completely took me by surprise in a good way....
On the other hand, she can be driven like a luxury car as my wife subsequently described even though my 4 year old boy kept shouting "FASTER FASTER DADDY, MUMMY DOES NOT WANT TO GO SLOW!"...they both approve!
One thing that did surprise me in a slightly negative way though, is how difficult it is to just plant it in first gear..The weather was lovely yesterday but even in dry conditions, I just couldnt get any real grip in first gear....Im hoping that this is because I have a new set of rubber and the tyres need some time to "bed in"
Looking forward to putting some miles on this now...Gonna detail the car properly using my own stuff and then get some proper pics up...Also got a trip to the Alpes coming up in July....think that is gonna be epic!
Some Final Remarks
M5
Brutal delivery of power
DCT gearbox is just incredible
A very diffferent but good sound compared to the RS4
Far more luxurious
Much better spec standard
More of a sleeper car
RS4
Nothing will touch the Quattro when its wet
Sounds like a v8 should with the Miltek
Very dated when comparing it directly to M5
Not as spacious compared to the M5 saloon
All in all, I will miss my RS4 but I know she has gone to a new home but I am very glad to have made the move...Im not sure anyone can appreciate this car until they have driven it first hand
