RNS-E AMI Upgrade

Post by Billy » Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:45 pm

Just wanted to double check before I buy.

Is this the right RNS-E I'll need? I've got SDS currently.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271376194870? ... 26_rdc%3D1

Also the right AMI unit to replace my CD changer?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111290553141? ... 26_rdc%3D1

Going to get a USB HDD as well, so apart from the removal keys is there anything else I need?

Also how easy it is to change the the chrome knobs over with the ones off my current RNS-E?

Cheers

That looks like the latest version of RNS-E but its only straight fit for A3 (8P) so you will need to change the front panel (or do you call it mask).

Billy, the keys purchased are these ebay item number: 151212182928

Ensure the long edge is facing outwards when inserted...

You should enter engineering mode to get the coding of your unit and ask Sat Nav deals to code it exactly. Or:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29

* You will also need Vagcom to code set adaptation channel 8 to 255 to turn off GALA (not needed with Bose AudioPilot which is what RS4's have).

Cheers lads.

I'd seen that one Neil but thought it had to be from an A3/TT.

Think I'll get that one instead then thanks, you fitted yours yet?

Got Vagcom so can manage that...I think?!?

Since the previous replies have answered your question about the RNS-E, I'll just confirm that's the correct AMI upgrade kit you'll need.

BTW the only Audi versions of the 2010+ RNS-E are for the A3, TT and R8 (there is a SEAT version if you don't mind having a front panel that says SEAT in your RS4 :FIREdevil: ). The R8 version is no good as the control layout is very different and an A4 front panel won't fit - hence why you need an A3 or TT version for you to swap the front panel (or one where someone else has already swapped the front panel to an A4 one).

Well, Dave I never knew that on the A3 TT etc

Billy - Sat Nav Deals actually do the switch out of the relevant parts to make the 2010+ work in a Rs4 - that was the appeal for me, anyway...

Blimey, it's all over the audio sections of many Audi forums - and has been since 2010 :beerchug:

But with you on here it saves me trawling those audio sections - it's like having our own Oracle

Thanks chaps, so is that A4/S4/RS4 one just an A3/TT one that the guy has converted, so to speak?

My coding is 309717, will this stay the same when using the AMI?

Yes, and the paper label on the top will tell you which it was. If the part number starts 8J0 then it was a TT unit, but if it starts 8P0 (like mine) then it was an A3 unit.

No, see http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29 your coding will need to change to 309727 as the AMI is coded as "Digital Radio" (don't ask me why it makes no sense to me either but it's what you have to do!)

As Dave mentions Billy, these guys actually configure a pre 2010 and post 2010 RNSe (so two units) to make it work in our RS4's - I can see this as the unit is security taped at the joints in the one I have here - honestly, you'd never know and it works just perfect and more up to date. In another post, MF Footlong had a few units form these guys with no issues also...]

As dave syas, AMi = different coding. Even though you give them that coding, and they say they have coded accordingly just check it for peace of mind....

Not only that but as you have a BT kit (I can tell that from your coding) there's a high probability that the BT will store a blocking fault code when you do the swap which you would need to get cleared with VCDS to get the BT kit working again.
