Another Brake Nightmare!!!!

Post by Tile Diver » Thu Feb 20, 2014 6:56 pm

Christ!!!!! more brake issues!!!

I was in the process off fitting my shiney new front calipers to the car.

All nice and straight forward until I started the bleeding process, the new fronts were fine as to be expected, the rears however were a different story. The bleed nipples were mega tight to release, anyway the drivers side calliper wasn't too bad and I done that without much hassle. Onto the near side, again really tight and difficult to open the bleed nipple, so opened it, fluid came through, but when I started to close the nipple it wouldn't tighten and brake fluid continued to flow out, so now I have a stripped thread in the caliper, just another brake nightmare with this car!!!!

So I was wondering if the offending calliper could have a helicoil fitted or will I have to bite the bullet and buy a bloody new calliper?

Here's a couple of snaps of the new calipers and one of the fcuked rear caliper!!

Cheers from an Irate forum member!!! :bash:

thats a bugger , brakes look smart tho,

is there any meat left to maybe re thread them, ? i have done it in the past when the same thing happened but that was on a porsche 4 pot caliper, have also helicoiled a couple

you will have to cut off the piece that kicks into the centre of the coil or the nipple will not seat in the caliper

Cheers Rick, can't see me taking it on myself like, me and brakes aren't compatible it seems, I'll see if anywhere local could do it for me, I might even try the local Audi garage but can't see them wanting to get involved with something like this.

I'll let you know how it goes, I'm well pissed off though!!! :bash:

Waiting on the UPS Delivery man coming to pick up my caliper, as its off the car I'm sending it back to get a refurb and they're going to helicoil it for me.

Just a shame the French Audi dealer wasn't interested in sorting it, they'd rather give me a price for a new one and come up with a rank excuse saying that it can't be repaired!!! Knobs!!

Hi Mark,

Cheers for the offer, which may be of use, I'm waiting on my calliper coming back from the re-furb place, they are fitting a Helicoil, if its ok then fine, if it looks dodgy or doesn't stop the brake fluid coming out then I'll be in touch.

No worrys at all send me an e-mail address and i can mail you some images, they had new RS decals applied to them, i was hoping i could upgrade my S6 tiny rear brakes but the conversion is not going to work.

they are 8.5 /10 condition wise..

Bit of a thread resurrection here but how did u get on with this mate? My brakes are spongy and need bleeding. I know 1 bleed nipple I have isn't great, I'm surprised it held at all. I think bleeding it may put me in the same position as you were but I hate how the brakes feel
