Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice... the other night i was driving a little spiritadly along a local back road when i hit a patch of mud. The car started to go into a full tank slapper anyway tried to control which I did to a certain degree. However managed to damage 3 wheels and it seems to have bent something on the back as the drivers side rear wheel is heavily toed in at the bottom... so my question is the car likely to be written off for 3 wheels and possibly a rear end issue? There is no panel damage at all and checkung all the panel gaps it seems ok.
Has anyone had an experience like this? As with most of us on here the cars my pride and joy and really dont want to lose her!

Any info would be appreciated. I havent contacted the insurance yet either.. the cars a 2007 in Daytona with FASH and 58k

Out of pure curiosity after a post a few days ago and if you dont mind me asking, what tyres are you running?

Would love to just get her fixed myself unfortunatly just moved home and a little challenged in the pocket! But that was why I was asking... is it better to fix myself although it will take a few months to get the money together or trust in the insurance?

Hi Rocco.. thanks man.. hopefully get it sorted soon. I'm running Vriedestein Ultra Sessantas mate. Are these tyres a bit prone to this sort of thing?
I'm also running h & r 8 and 10mm spacers... which i didnt inform the insurance about.. is it better to get these off before calling the insurance?

No, the reason i asked is a few days ago my P-zeros got slated and just wanted to know if you ran the same.
Ive never claimed car insurance but i wouldn't have thought they would be looking for aftermarket sus.

Are the rims buckled (a tyre fitter can check if you're unsure) or just scraped/kerbed? If the latter, refurbing them will be in the region of £50-75/rim. I'd get the suspension checked at a specialist (or a main dealer, but they'll probably stiff you for repairs). Good luck; doesn't sound like a write off to me.

personally I'd get the car looked at by a decent garage

see what cost you are looking at to get it sorted...

compare that to the excess you will have to pay if you claim on insurance and how much your insurance may well go up for next 5 years as result of the claim

then decide what to do..

Fortunatly i've got protected ncd thank f... so insurance isn't the problem its the risk of a right off.. couldnt see it coming anywhere near 10k to fix unless theres a chassis issue or the like.. it would cost them 18 - 19k to right off or there abouts. Having never had to claim I'm in the dark about this! Took me a year to find the right car and don't fancy the hassle of looking again... although a sprint blue one would be nice lol

3 of the wheels are really damaged. 2 have bad chunks and i'm sure they are buckled. The thurd might be saved but in pretty bad nick. Thanks for the reply and hope its not a right off too

Will.

Ensure you remove the spacers before any insurance underwriter comes to check the car just to be safe. They normally give you a few days notice before coming out to assess the value of the claim and check loads of items. They were not supplied as standard and if the car is insured as standard they will use any trick to not pay out.

I have recently had nightmares trying to get a small front end repair on my last car Brabus CLS authorised - the car was insured with every detail covered but they still tried to claim they were non-Mercedes parts and didn't want to fix it. It wasn't even my fault but 3rd party that hit me and it still caused problems. They even tried to scare-monger by telling me the tread was low - it was at just over 2mm at the time so legal but they will try anything to avoid paying up!

I would see how much it cost to repair before you claim because although you have protected no claims discount it does not stop them from increasing your premium by a huge amount and then applying your discount.

Sorry to hear this mate, I'd definitely get it checked over first, might not be as much as you think to sort once you take your excess and next years future premium hike into account..

Can always stick a different set of wheels on in the meantime?

Vreds..... IMHO bloody awful tyres after about 50% wear.
Hopefully you’ll get your car sorted and if so put some decent rubber on next time.
(they are good in the wet.. for a while but hate heat. They’re a false economy of our cars)

After having had PZeros and Vreds I think you're being harsh on the Vreds - they're not in the same league as Michelins or Goodyears, but IMHO they're better than the Pirellis.
