I wish this kit was available this time last year, as I had to fit the OEM at great expense, oh well.
I saw this product at the Performance Car show today on the Forge stand, absolutely top quality.

I like the kit,

I just don't like the fact its been reverse priced from the Audi parts brochure so blatantly for a cooler that actually costs about £150 !!

If this kit had of been around the £500 mark as we were all kind of expecting then I think it would have been a thing of greatness and you would have sold bucketloads.

This isn't your fault, but I think Forge are taking the pish and i will never buy another one of their products again.

The problem is that there's little choice out there if you want to avoid the Audi OEM kit, which is generally acknowledged to be poor and likely to require replacing every 5 years or so. You could make up a kit by sourcing the component parts, Setrab cooler, braided pipes etc but you've got to work out how to connect them to the engine block. So the Forge kit or JHM replacement pipes are the only real fit-and-forget options IMO. I've gone with JHM as I'm not too keen on the position of the Forge cooler above the front impact bar in terms of air flow to the main rads, and the need to relocate the sensor below the bar. Both these options are expensive, but to my mind much better than the OEM option.

So car in with dealer having both Aux Rads replaced following a coolant leak.

Inevitably have been advised of corrosion on oil cooler couplings and quoted about £1400 to do it all (cooler & hoses with labour). So am considering my options. The forge kit is of interest but have a couple of questions:

* Talking with someone more mechanically minded (I know jack), issues were raised that the higher sitting cooler position of the Forge cooler means the oil can/will drain from it when engine is off. Is that a potential problem ? I note Forge make a point of the higher position to reduce risk of road debris damage, but that isn't much of a consideration for me.

* Does the change of the oil cooler achieve much ? The main issue with the Audi bits being the mixed metal (aluminium/steel) corrosion at the joints, rather than the performance of the oil cooler itself. With that in mind, does just using alternative hoses with matched metal connectors to an OEM oil cooler solve the problem? I'd prefer to stick as stock as possible when it comes to replacements.

I recognise the fact that I'm likely to have to replace the oil cooler being the difficulty in taking apart the corroded coupling. Though an independent more likely to give it a go with careful cutting of hoses whilst protecting threads, which is not in Audi dealer's interest to bother with.

Any comments?

i,m exactly the same position. after removing my bumper at weekend i noticed some oil drips at one end. hopefully this weekend i,ll strip the rest out and bring the cooler home to see whats what. if the pipes come off the cooler ok then its a no brainer just new oem hoses but if its a full replacement it will be decision time!

If you haven't already, have look at some of the posts on the 'Yet another oil cooler question (well a few actually)' thread here. I'm in the middle of changing over to JHM pipes and new Audi cooler and am planning to do a mini thread for those who, like me, have problems with the standard set up. Or PM me if you want :thumb:

i cant see the position of the forge oil cooler regarding oil draining being a problem.
i would be more concerned with it blocking flow over the main rad, probs not a problem for those of us in the uk with our temps but if you have the cold air feed and have already deleted one of your aux rads then on a hot day and if your giving it some this could start to add up. i would rather they used a similar size and shape to the oem cooler and kept it in its original position.
as for forge placing the oil cooler further up to minimize road debris damage i dont think they had a choice it simply would not have fitted in the oem location.

the "upgraded cooler" will offer no cooling benefits over oem, supercharged cars making 600+ bhp run the oem cooler with zero oil temp problems.
the problem like you say is the oem hoses with steel fittings, unfortunately its not going to be easy to make up your own set of pipes because of the non standard fitting audi use where the oil pipes connect to the block. the only people that are making an upgraded set of pipes with the correct fittings are jhm.

plenty on here have struggled removing the old pipes, when i do mine i think i will cut the pipe and thread straight off and weld new threads on to the cooler body. someone on here has already done this as the threads were to badly corroded/damaged by the time the steel fittings had been cut off.

and i think its worth mentioning that everyone who has had the forge kit fitted seems to be suffering from some weird rpm related harmonics vibration issue, which is causing an audible whine when reving the engine.
