Propshaft centre bearing gone kapput!

Post by Paddyleigh » Tue Nov 26, 2013 10:40 pm

New to ownership (6 weeks) and thoroughly enjoying the car (B7Avant Daytona Grey) so far but the propshaft centre bearing has gone kapput! This was supposedly sorted by stealer as could hear a slight whining before purchase and they showed me the worksheet. However, transpires they bodged it or just smothered it in grease as after a couple of days of an intermittent tinkling rattle in 1st, 2nd & 3rd between 1000 & 2500rpm on Sunday it gave up the ghost big time and now sounds like I've got half a dozen 'sally army' collectors rattling their pots under the car. :bash:

Got the vehicle into a local VAG specialist and they state that the centre bearing could not have been replaced as there is no serviceable part here (other than a BMW version which fits?) and it will require a complete propshaft £££'s..

Have got an extended Inchcape warranty and await outcome of conversation between specialists and warranty co :biggrin2: otherwise it's time to bash the seller.

Anybody had experience of this on here? found a few on PH and a few other audi forums. Anyone know of a suitable replacement if it is going to end up costing me the £'s ?

This isn't a warranty claim, its a claim against the dealer who supplied the car who said they replaced the part but clearly didn't!!

Totally agree - however if the Inchap Warranty is willing to pay out it may be a lot easier than going to battle with the seller to get them to cough up.
