AMD

After the dismal performance of my car at the AMD day the other week, it has gone in to search for a Vac fault. If that is pretty easy / cheap to fix then it will be that and then a de-coke.... Unless the Vac is too much then it will just be that, after all, Christmas is just round the corner.
I will let you know costs and performance change after this. I was hoping I could just have a de-coke to have a direct comparison, but sadly this will not be the case.
Oh, and I got it cleaned the other day which I think has added a few MPH to the top speed after about 2 cm of dirt was washed away, cheapest mod you can get!

Hi mate. I can't remember what yours run at, but mine was low also at 358bhp. I did the same as you and went for decoke also. The pics they sent me show how bad it was prior to clean so definitely glad I did it. It ran 433 after. (With a stage 1 map) I was well pleased with the results. Look forward to seeing how yours gets on. If you want I can pm some before and after pics to show you the difference.
Wash and wax definitely helps with the aero package.

Which is consistent with the figures MRC have posted here - approx 30bhp from a carbon clean and and approx 30bhp from a remap.

To be fair. The remap was done prior to clean. I think I had a vac leak which was fixed at the time of the clean. But the car did run 402 BHP after remap a couple if months back and then dynoed at 433 after carbon clean, so yes 30bhp ish gain from clean alone.

That would be consistent with only making 358bhp.

Yea - I concur, mine ran 378 pre decoke, then 402 post decoke, by the time Doug had finished it was pushing 428 all on the hot day on MRC's dyno
What I don't get is why it went down to 404 at the dyno shoot out - to be honest I really am not that bothered as she runs just sweet - I'd just like to understand why - reading other posts I guess this is due to heat soak and the temp in the RR room and also dyno differences @ AMD

Kev have you had the cold air feed mod done to your car? I know scaffs was down on power at the rolling rd day too, turned out to be a stuck air box power flap, causing heat soak, he's since had the pre cats gutted and CAF he's back up to around 430 +

If your going to get your car mapped MRC are the masters at this for the b7,I've had a no of maps and theirs is by far the most impressive, the difference in sport to non sport is amazing

Silas, I heard this before with maps at MRC. How does the sport and non sport vary. Mine feels no difference between the the two.

In non sport the car is much more dulled down, good for driving in traffic as the throttle response is not too sensitive, but in sport it just picks up much more quickly with a more responsive power delivery+ the limiter is lifted in the gearing

On what basis? Sounds like you've only had mrc.
From all of the actual testing data I've seen, JHM has done best at every performance test. Pbox, 1/4 mile, dyno, even the Arthur test. That's both naturally aspirated and supercharged.
So just wondering, how is MRC the master? MRC is certainly a great contributor but I don't get these sweeping statements with seemingly no testing to back it up. Don't say 'drivability'...we are talking about performance modifications here, so referencing something subjective is silly. Besides people love the drivability improvements of virtual all tunes so chuck that oot tha windae.

Just heard from AMD, sadly the vac problem is going to cost me £350 so i've cancelled the de coke. On the plus side hopefully when i get the spare dosh it really will be a direct comparison.
