got my b7 - some questions

Post by sk1808 » Wed Oct 30, 2013 4:07 pm

hi all
i picked up a rs4 the other day
so far im really enjoying the car and happy with the purchase
I found the car so solid in rain that i decided to push it that extra bit harder and found it was quite prone to aquaplane at higher speed (on Michelin pilot aplins) do you find this with yours also?

there are two things i would like to change though

-what are my options with the annoying phone holder ?
can i replace this with a iphone 4 holder

- can i retro fit Bluetooth connectivity for my phone (without having something like the "parrot" device on my dash

- and finally - what am i looking at financially, to replace my bucket seats with normal ones ? (costs of fitting and changing seats??)

thanks everyone
sk

OEM bluetooth is retrofit-able (probably not a word) but will likely need wiring and a suitable headunit etc. I though cars with the phone holder all had bluetooth installed too though. It's a wee box that sits behind the glove box and plugs into the back of the RNS-E, and then you wire a mic into/underneath/behind the map lights cluster. There is an iPhone 4 adapter for the phone holder. Removing the holder all together, iirc, requires a whole new console piece (or a dremel and some holes).

Financially, you shouldn't struggle to find someone looking to swap standard seats for buckets, plus cash your way. I think the going rate is around £1000-1500 plus standard seats (depending on condition of both sets). Fitting is I think 4 bolts per seat, probably 2 hours total?

please get of my thread

@MartayMcFly - Thx for your response. What are the fitting costs going to be like. Is it a simple bolt on and plugNplay for the heated seats ?

One more final question. Does anyone have a link to OEM audi rs4 seats, struggling to find them here.
Thanks again
SK

edit: nop, its a blue 57 saloon

FON.

Rule 1

Get a proper Hunter 4-wheel alignment done, then consider other tyres if it’s still aquaplaning.

Edit: Also get the DRC checked.

If you have the cradle then you have bluetooth already so just try connecting your phone - you may want to clear the existing phones in the RNS-E as I think when you get to 4 or 5 it can get stuck.

Yes they do aquaplane - AWD only helps get you going by distributing load - when you aquaplane your tyres can't disperse the water quickly enough simple physics no matter how many wheels are being driven, just as in the snow you will stop as well or badly as a 2 WD A4 if you are on ALins they probably work better with rain than summer tyres.

Both rule number 1 and FON apply here

I'm sure if you advertise on here that you're looking to swap/PX some buckets for Comfort seats, someone will snap your hand off
Going rate for selling good condition buckets is around £2k and comfort seats less than £1k, so you will get some cash your way in the deal unless the condition is really bad.

Be very careful on the Michelin Alpins as I've blown a winter tyre out on a Hire car when working abroad and stupidly ignoring big speed limit Stickers on the day. Blowing out a tyre at 125mph is a pants filling experience and I was very lucky to get away with it. I'd certainly not look to repeat it and I'd hate for someone else to be less fortunate than I was
They'll be great tyres for the winter, but you'l find the handling will transform if you switch them to a Pilot Sport or Pzero etc.

welcome to RS4 ownership btw too, now get some pics up as per Rule 1

If you have the phone holder I am pretty sure that you will have factory bluetooth already - I take it you have tried pairing your phone with the car?
The centre console is swappable and is a standard part for all A4 B7's AFAIK - This was the first thing I did when I got mine [to remove the cradle]. I think I paid about £90 to have mine changed from one with a cradle to one with out.

I use apple devices and have a hard wired lighting adaptor in my glove box. You can also do cool things like stream 3g internet radio over bluetooth from your phone but that's another conversation.

>> replace my bucket seats with normal ones ? (costs of fitting and changing seats??)

Are you really sure you want to do this - effectively you will be lowering the market value and future saleability of your car - I would not recommend it unless you really don't like them - they are worth a lot of money and people have had their cars written off just because their bucket seats have been stolen - they are no longer listed by audi complete and to replace them you have to order each part individually and then get them made up!

Beat me to it - Alpins are winter tyres! These were on the car when you bought it? They should be proper speed and load rating if they are 19s, however if they are 18s they could be 8.5 or 7.5" alloys, hence be fitted with much lower speed rating rubber
