Solenoid Engine Mount

Hi Guys,
I went ahead and bought a nice 06 Avant in Daytona - Yay

Really enjoying the car.....However...I took it into my local dealer for a free health check. They came up with quite a few (£4000 worth) of faults....
One of particular note was "N145 Right Solenoid Engine Mount - Defective" - what is this, what does it do and what happens if I don't get it changed?? Quoted £394..

This is good question. I logged the same code after getting a
VCDS cable. There is a right (N145) and a left (N144) and I noticed them listed as actuators but I'm not sure of their exact function.
I remember reading a thread about it a while back regarding cost of installation, some believed it to be a difficult job (higher cost) and some not. I will dig a little more and see what I find.

They're 'active' mounts that are there to control movement of the engine (and vibration I believe). They can be replaced with everything else in situ but I understand it's a faff, and may need special tools.
I've had one fail and had it replaced under warranty - after which the car felt...... err, exactly the same tbh.
If you're paying for these things yourself I'd suggest you ask the dealer to tell you what symptoms to expect from a failed mount, and whether failed ones can lead to other problems before you splash out.

Pretty basic things really - soft engine mounts that can firm up on command from Ecu (for example large throttle opening).
Essential no but will make things feel a lot better all round.
What other things did they find?

I had one replaced a while back. The improvement was subtle - I immediately noticed less vibration into cabin when italian tuning (and into me, via the seat). It was an incidental finding and one I would have been just as happy to be ignorant of.

By the way, congratulations on the purchase - nice colour and nice shape. I love the car and this forum is excellent.

1. Rear Washerjet blocked.
2. Front x 2 and Rear x 1 wiper blades need replacing.
3. Thermostat housing O ring leaking, requires new O ring & housing bolts due to corrosion.
4. Lower lefthand oil cooler pipe to intercooler ‘slightly sweating’. All union pipes are corroded, might require all pipes and intercooler if pipe replaced.
5. Near side front suspension strut leaking.
6. Off side rear suspension strut leaking.
7. Front discs and pads (pads 80% worn) They say they can’t put just pads on… as the worn lip on the disks will stop them touching the discs? Discs 32.6mm & 32.9mm
8. Noise coming from front engine area. Probably the thermostat housing O ring but will need to have bumper off to inspect.
9. N145 right solenoid engine mount defective.
10. Replace brake fluid.

Hi Bomb
Some of these are pretty common DRC. Oil cooler etc and you could've saved yourself some cash if you'd come here sooner...
Anyway, it is incredibly unlikely these issues went overnight. Do you have any comeback or was it a private sale?
If any comeback get on their case ASAP if private what did you pay? Pointing out the obvious but if cheap here is your reason why.
If its a keeper and you don't want Audi warranty get the work done at a specialist and save a few quid.
AMD is in Essex
MRC in Oxford
UNIT 20 up north!
GL, stick with it, awesome cars when running well

BTW... Hate to break it but DRC, OIL Cooler and front disks are 6k alone from stealers....

Without the oil cooler, I've been quoted £2900 from a Stealer.
It was bought from a independent dealer - who is as miffed as I am...as he took it to an Audi Stealer for a service before the sale...they did a health check and came up with totally different issues....some totally opposite and conflicting to the issues bought up in the inspection I had done.......
It had new oil pipes and DRC only a couple of years ago......
I did my research....knew the issues, asked the right questions before sale. The dealer has said he will put any issues right
Have asked MRC for a price for an independent inspection....to hopefully get to the bottom of what actually needs doing. I want to quantify for example....is there slight misting or weeping of DRC or is it full on leakage?

Ah, good stuff, I was getting worried for you for a moment there!
sounds like it will all get sorted. if the dealer is sorting it, tbh, i'd just take it to a stealer and get it all done.......... they probably aren't as "good" as the specialists, but you will have more comeback later with Audi if necessary.
Oh, just had a thought. it is relatively agreed and common knowledge that Camberley Audi (Rob) have the best reputation out there. As it sounds like you are near MRC, then you are also probably near Camberley, take it to them for an opinion.

Depends what part of drc had failed - individual shock isn't too bad as it's the central controllers that are the issue
