Clutch problems

Post by X1MYS » Thu Aug 15, 2013 11:37 pm

Ok so I was on my way home today dual carriageway put my foot down as you do was slowing down clutch in to slow car down and pedal stayed down car staled and pedal stayed down wont release automatically unless forces up and won't engage gear.

I have no prior symptoms of clutch slipping and gear selection and change has always been very smooth.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Is this a definite sign that the clutch has gone or could it be something to do with slave cylinder.

Need your help please ??

Ok so been to the stealers and just had a price for replacing the slave cylinder at a cost of £264.41 fitted

That's if it is definitely the slave and not something else need to have it checked and make sure it is.

Might be worth paying them the hours labour to have it diagnosed.

See if you can have them deduct the diagnostic cost if you were to give them the car to carry out the necessary repair work. All they can say is NO.

I thought the gearbox had to come out to replace the slave cylinder? Or at least the manifolds?

Hey guys

So stealers have come back to me and said they have ruled out the slave cylinder and master cylinder and more than likely going to be the clutch and they want me to agree to them stripping out at a cost of 6 hours labour to strip so I'm sending the car to an independent instead !

I have read and spoke to a few people and have been recommended to change the dual mass flywheel and replace to a single as its lightweight etc
Has anybody done this and how has it been any issues notice to drive gear change is it better ?? need some help on deciding what to go for and also what brands to look for with the clutch kit and single mass flywheel?
as always your help will be much appreciated

This exact thing recently happened to mine and I had to have a full clutch replacement for around 1800, compared to the stealers 2300 I was quoted.

Yeah stick to OE. The dual mass flywheel is pricey, and whilst its not the part that has failed here, it needs to be replaced for a new one when the clutch is done. Mine was done at 63k at a respected independent using the same OEM dual mass flywheel, clutch, pipework and cylinder

OEM clutch in this car is excellent other than the sac and pressure plate issues. I would reuse oem in the UK though for stock power levels and normal driving.

If you are going to upgrade the car, I would look at the new jhm stage 1r or 5r clutch.

Their old design used the oem pressure plate (their stage 3/4 clutch kit) but the new one has a totally redesigned pressure plate. 1r is great for bolt on mods like tune exhaust etc. 5r for supercharged.

The regular stage 3 and 4 are also excellent but relies on the oem pressure olate which has been a source of weakness in these cars so that an be annoying.

All of their kits have a lightweight flywheel which is great. Drive like stock other than the r series which are a bit firmer pedal pressure.

Should be about £1000-£1250 pus shipping...which is the big variable. It weighs about 25 lbs.
