Broken Down :(
Broken Down :(
Driving along today, at about 70(ish), and suffered a total loss of power followed by the engine cutting out, the ESP light started flashing as well. Managed to pull off the dual carriageway and wrestle the car into a lane (the steering isn't light without the engine running). Tried to restart the car about a dozen times, each time it fired and ticked over for about 10-15 seconds then cut out each time. Called the RAC and waited patiently!
About 40 mins later with the laptop plugged in the car the following error codes were thrown out:
00257 - P0101 - 004
Air Mass meter -G70
Implausible signal
18265 - 000
Load signal fault message from engine CU
A test was run on the MAF, which showed ok, and the faults reset. The engine immediately cut out.
The above was repeated with the same results.
Drove the car home with the ESP Light still on, the engine ECU Light has also come on.
Just to give you the full background, I had driven about 15 miles in the morning, left the car for 2.5 hours in the sun, and sat with the engine running for about 20 mins prior to driving about 10 miles before I broke down.
The car has a revolution air intake fitted, and a milltek non res.
Could this be due to heat soak on the MAF?
Any ideas?

Re: Broken Down :(
Could be water in the wiring
Re: Broken Down :(
Could be, but it's only ever hand washed though and spends every night in the garage ?

Re: Broken Down :(
Funnily I needed a new MAF a few years ago when I was running my GruppeM, I put it down to having a high flow filter on for the good part of two years.
However I never broke down, it became apparent on the rolling road at MRC

Re: Broken Down :(
The MAF gets dirty if you have oil covered filter such as the pipercross one in the Revolution intake (assume similar one in Gruppe M). The insides of the silicon pipes on mine are covered with a very fine coating of oily dust - you can imagine how that plays havoc with MAF sensor. I had some rough running solved by giving the MAF a really good wash with MAF cleaner.

This is the stuff I was recommended: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CRC-Air-Senso ... 4173e210f6
You can really give it a good soaking, just leave it to evaporate off before re-installing.

Re: Broken Down :(
Yep tony, these filters need to be washed prior fitting, thats what I did. It was heat and possibly dirt that damaged the MAF.
