Right, back in November I bought my lovely car, took it to Audi for a once over.

"You will very shortly need new discs and pads front and rear sir. Bend over so I can retrieve £1800 from your rectum please"

A little shocked I spoke to my mate at a honda service centre where he advised me that I "bought a car like that and should bloody just shut up and pay for it". A Fair point.

Anyway, long story short, I went to get them done, (not at Audi) Credit card in hand, feeling slightly ill at the thought of this amount of money about to disappear from my drinking fund when the tech came out and said, "just front pads mate, discs are well in spec and rear pads are only 60% worn"... I could have kissed his oily cheeks. It was a Honda dealer but this guy is ex Audi and had owned a B7 for 3 years, so he knows what he is doing.

Anyway, dealers are total children with know known father.

Never trust an Audi dealer when it comes to brakes !

When I had the 911 I was told at the 48k service that I needed new discs. The same ones got a clean bill of health from the same dealer at 96k.

Self healing brake discs.......

Not just Audi dealers, 3 years ago a Citroen dealer told me I needed new brakes and discs on my C1 - at 16k miles! I'm still using the same discs and pads at 33k miles...

All main dealers try and rip you off with brakes! I had a 1 year old transporter t5 and they tried telling me I needed new disc with 25k on the clock! I said jog on!

My dads Sportback just had new rear discs and pads at 80k - the first time the brakes have been touched on the car

Even more impressive is that the pads had a little more life in them, approx 20%, but the handbrake mech on one of the calipers was rusted and seized so everything was changed together

And it's not just all stealers with brakes, I took my Alfa in for a service last week and the guy said it was 700 and something pounds. I asked what made the service so expensive, I figured they must be doing the cambelt for that sort of money. After looking for 15 minutes doing all kinds of searching and even going outside to write down the VIN number all he could say was 'I can't see why it's come up as being that much, it should be £400'. Bar stewards!
