Hi all, my front discs are being skimmed today and I was just wondering if they should be bedded in again afterwards? I suspect the answer is yes but I though I'd canvass opinion anyway. Pads are EBC yellowstuffs with about 5k miles on them.

I would say yes.

My vibration is back (9kmiles), it's terrible when braking from high speed, was thinking about a skim and re-bed too.

It's pretty much the only thing that really hacks me off about the car.

Me too, I just can't seem to totally get rid of mine no matter what I try. Having said that for some bizarre unknown reason it's got a lot better all of it's own accord over the last couple of weeks

Where is the best place to get discs skimmed please? I'd like to get mine done.

I'm having mine done at the South West Lotus centre in Lifton, Devon. I found them through google I think. But basically look for someone with the Procut machine which skims discs without removing them from the car. Beware too that RS4 front discs are bigger than a lot of skimming kit can cope with so make sure whoever you go with can accommodate the circumference (so to speak!).

I am not convinced that the problem is down to the discs. I fitted loba discs and had brake judder return but since I use it as a daily drive it has disappeared and the brakes are very good. It may be something to do with the caliper pistons perhaps one or two are sticking and producing uneven pressure on the pads. When I changed the discs and pads it was a struggle to push the pistons back in. I have not changed the way I brake and the problem has gone away.

The subject of brake judder has been covered extensively, the opinion being it’s pad deposits that create high spots on the disc, exacerbated by not bedding in properly from new, standing on the brakes and light braking.

Mine has had two sets of discs, both times the judders has returned after a couple of thousand miles or so; I never did the full bedding in process. I’ve done it a couple of times after the event, which helps a bit, but it keeps rearing its ugly head!

Ended up having the fronts and rears skimmed. Will get out and bed them in and see how it goes. When I had them skimmed previously the judder crept back in after a couple of months depite me being as careful as possible not to drive in a way that would leave pad deposits. This time round I think I'll also adopt a policy of routinely doing a few hard stops and see if that makes any difference.

On one of the other threads someone was highly recommending a mobile skimmer who's an ex-f1 technician - might be worth contacting whoever it was who used him to see if the results have held up.

I did the full bedding in process and it still returned. I do not believe that these issues are solely down to brake deposits. When I bought the car new Audi did not say to me "Mr Turner before you drive your car normaly you must go up the road and perform this bedding in process or your brakes will judder like a bastard." I have probably owned 50 cars ranging from Anglia,escort rs1600, Jensen E types, M3s. I have never had this issue before. Since cleaning the calipers and making sure the pads moved freely the problem has gone away. This solved my problem but everyone must try their own solution but you must not assume it is deposits.
